  • herbicide of some type in flower beds

A friend of mine that works at another LCO in town today mentioned that his crew puts some type of herbicide (i guess) into flower beds (in granular form) to prevent weeds. Does anyone know what this might be? Maybe a pre-emergence herbicide that wont hurt the plants, but wont allow new weeds to seed? or somehting else?

also, if you do know what it is? hw well does it work? Ive got a couple lawn that theyre beds are out of control. I weed them every week, but they keep getting these little weeds that look like minature minosa (spelling?) trees. They have yellow seeds all up and down their stem, and they spread like wildfire in Florida....

Call Bob Kessler at 772-562-1442 and take his class to get licensed and the knowledge you need.

Those granules are called Pre emerge Herbicide and you should learn about them in his class.

As an unlicensed guy we really don't want to keep answering First grade questions that a simple Class and licenses to use those chemicals will take care of. After you have that license we will all be glad to answer your question.

Follow Ric's guidance. The amount of "pesticide scrub" money you get will not cover the visit by the DEC when your "luck" runs out.

If you have to ask WHAT IT IS and HOW DOES IT WORK.............................

then you have no business applying it.

GO GET ED-U-CAY-TED on the what and how; then you will know the names and how it works, how much to use, and be a responsible applicator!!!

No wonder the environmentists get the wrong idea about this stuff!

You guys just put up the MOST informative posts on this forum (as things relate to me). Now I don't need to go through 25 or so people to find this out when I take the commercial limited landscape classwork next year.

You know as much as I'd hate another sticky at the top of the forum one might be good to post info regarding licensing info for each state, and the penalties of spraying w/o one. Might reduce the amount of arguments and repeating info in these threads.

ok, Im trying to get into Bob's classes, and am currently trying to find out if theres one in Gainesville in another thread. I didnt think there was a regulation on pre-ermerg...just post. I guess Im wrong, but I thought someone had told me that.

Anyways, Im just curioius if there actually is something people use like that (or if he's just mistaking it for fertilizer) and if it's cost effective to use on customer's lawns to cut down on weeds. Im too scared to use it without knowing exactly how, out of fear of killing a couple expensive landscape plants. I would like to use it though, on my own lawn in a place where i have no plants or anything to see if it works as well as y friend mentioned. Any help is appreciated...and again, Im going to be legal, as Imtrying to getinto the next class that I can.

You are either a blooming idiot or pulling our leg. I would Like to give you the credit of doing the later of the two. But I am not sure it isn't the former.

At least 4 people or more have given you the answer to how to find the Closest class to you. But Just to shut you up I will post the Orlando Class is the Closest to you and will be held 11/12/05. That is Novermber the 12th Year of our lord 2005.

These classes don't teach everything, and these guys are verbatim giving it as some cure all. To answer the question, Snapshot is labeled for flower beds and will stop most weeds. There are pre-ems for lawns too, but I rarely use them - Dimension, Pendulum, and Gallery to name a few. You will have to learn what to use for what weeds you need to control

                          Rusty,
the first things you have to do is get legal and no this class is not a cure-all.
Bob will teach you how to read labels and the importance of getting to know your chemicals along with the consequences of improper application and misuse. ie; $5000 fine per occurance, is it worth it?

Whatever you do, don't put anything down unless you read and understand the label. There is a "Yardman" clause that you could use until you qualify for the class but be leary of abusing it.

Thank you Scott and Alpine for answering my questions directly. I will visit my lesco store tomorrow to try some pre-em out.

Ric- Orlando's class will not work because I already was going out of town that day. I am hoping to get one in Gainesville (since UF sponsors most of them) or go to another out of town one when I dont have anyhting else planned. But, Im not "a blooming idiot or trying to pull your leg".....thank you. My post clearly stated "in another thread" for a reason. That meant that I was not asking the question again, but was asking Bob if he ever held classes at uf, or if they were just sponsored by them in a thread seperate from this one. I already knew the current list of classes from the previous posts that you mentioned. I know you have a lot of knowledge, and take a lot of time out of your day to come on here to post to help newbies like me, but chill out with the aggressiveness man, and make sure you read the full post before spouting off. Thanks again for the help....
