when u put fertilizing down you can use a regular hand spreader?

Yep I guess you can do anything you want, but doing it right and with ease might be another story.
If you are talking about a hand held whirlybird spreader you might get real tired making a 100 trips to do a few thousand sq ft. But it can be done. Getting the fertilizer distributed in an even Patten might be a totally different story also. But once again if you are real careful it is possible to do a fair job.
Chest Spreader are much the same story only you are working with more product. I have done it and had good success. But I made several passes at lower rates so any one past wasn't total amount to be applied to an area.
My feeling are that only if you have done a lot of spreading with a fertilize spreader and know how to calibrate can you achieve a fair job by hand spreaders. It is very easy to end up with Beautiful stripes of Green and Yellow in your lawns.
