  • Where to get water?

Is there anywhere that I could fill my tank on the road? Sometimes it is a pain to come back to the shop just to fill up with water. I could carry the concentrates of what I need with me. I though about a self serve car wash but how many gallons would I really get for 6 bucks? Any ideas?

Backflow prevention device. Are you sure every place you want to fill from will have one?

Ron Howard: Is that... vodka... and wheat grass?
Homer: It's called a "lawnmower". I invented it. Want one?

I know some guys in my area get water from the fire station. The car wash, I don't know how many gallons you would get, but I do know it's very clean water.

Your tank should have the filler spout 2 inches above the tank lid to comply with Anti siphon laws. A hose attached to PVC pipe to the top of your tank is both cheap and easy to install.

Check with the fire dept in your area. Some will sell permits to use their Fire Hydrants or will fill you up at the Fire Station. I also still do a lot of Liquid application. But I know Granular is a better way and with the coming of higher gas prices, I realize it is becoming more economical to use granules. I have several old Walker Mowers I have converted into what I call Ric-a-greens with power spreaders and 25 gallon booms sprayers. I can see selling my cab Overs and buying 12 ft enclosed trailers. I would recommend that method to anyone going into Fert & Squirt today. At my age and being part time and already set up, I will stay will my old method. The Trailer can be a rolling sign, shop and storage unit all in one. It can also free up the tow truck for other uses from the family Grocery Getter to mowing truck.

We go to the local water department and pull up underneath a holding tank. They fill our tank up for a couple bucks. It is a lot quicker and like posted above, you don't have to worry about a backflow device.

Some states require a mechanical anti-backflow device fitted on all filling equipment.

the city gave us a key that hooked to the fire hydrants, that way you could pay for the water- but fill off the line....

                  Water Everywhere

For deep root fert, we use an Echo pump and stop at streams/ponds. It is rural here and no law prohibiting it. Many companies do it. There is no chance for back flow because we hold the hose out of the tank.
