  • Crabgrass prevention and overseeding...

Many pre/post crab controls state you can not seed for 12 weeks after the app.

Having stated this, how would you go about making the application and overseeding. I have a customer that would like an entire fert package, all the way from crab prevention to winterization. In the meantime, they also want overseeding done a dead spots repaired. Is this possible?

Yes. Use tupersan. Can be used when seeding & will prevent weeds also from germinating. Not cheap, though.

      My fert/crab control costs $19.50/50#
How does Tupersan compare to this?
You mention it works well with weed control, does that include the crab?

jrservices, thank you for the info!!

        Various subjects in this post.
        1. you can break the pre- emergent barrier by aeration or power raking, then overseed.
        2. tupersan is not very effective. i would seed, get new lawn established and mowed twice, then come back with an application of dimension for pre and early post emergent control.
3.but i discourage spring seeding entirely. too much coompetition for new seedlings in spring.
        4. thenyou have an immature stand of turf to battle heat and drought stress? better off waiting till fall to seed, unless bare ground.

You're looking at several weeks until you can even use dimension. I've had decent results with tupersan, expensive though, $37.00 for, I believe, 30 or 40 lbs.

I've decided to go with a seeding coupled with started fert. Waith until seed germination and mowing, then come in with dimension.

            What do you think?

Either that, or just spray out weeds postemergent.

Acclaim is some wonderful (and pricey) stuff.
