weed killer near lake

my dad just bought a lakefront piece of property and was wondering if there was a safe weed killer to use near water...he said he heard someone mention rodeo? anyone know of anything safe to spray around the lakefront to clean it up and kill weeds?

Not trying to sound like an ass, but maybe this is something that should be left to a licenced professional who knows what he is doing. Sure you could go to homoe depot and buy round-up, but if it says something on the label about not using it in an area where runoff could be a problem, the label is the law (I do not have a label in front of me, just an possible example). That being said, if you disregard the label and use said product where you are not allowed to and kill off the life in the pond, the government will do all they can to make your life hell.

the question was whether or not the product "Rodeo" was safe to use around lakefront, or if anyone knew of a product safe to use...after reseaching on the net i found the following about rodeo..Rodeo / Shore-Klear
Above the surface plants crowding you out? Rodeo is effective on nearly all emergent plants like Cattails, Grasses, Bulrushes, Purple Loosestrife, Aligatorweed and Water lilies. Rodeo is systemic - kills the roots for multi year control. There is not a more economical way to control tall weeds. Mix the Rodeo concentrate with water and a non-ionic surfactant (See Activate Surfactant) and apply by using a back pack or hudson type sprayer. For Cattail or Lily control wait until plants are mature. Apply to dry plants. No water use restrictions.

Best make sure you know what you doing. Sure as God made little green apples, anything near large bodies of water gets contaminated, life as you know it for you will surely go to hell if traced back to anything you did.
