Lost a customer due to crabgrass in a yard. New lawn company guarantees he has a chemical that will kill it out, so my customer is going to use them now. I was under the impression that this chemical was outlawed, if not what is he using?

As to outlawing a chemical, it depends where you live. I can still apply chemicals that will kill crabgrass around here.

Ron Howard: Is that... vodka... and wheat grass?
Homer: It's called a "lawnmower". I invented it. Want one?

maybe ric will chime in, he is from FL and knows all there is about applying pesticides in FL. I think I am going to try to network with a solo op around my area if I can find one. I just know that middleton had recently told this lady they stopped treating crabgrass in lawns, so she stop using them, and I guess found this guy who also does lawncare.

Can't understand why you lost a client because of crabgrass. Isn't that the PCO's responsibility or are you also providing chemical treatments? Are you familiar with FL Statute 482?

If not, why not call your local county ag agent and get set straight on what you can do to prevent or treat for crab grass within the legal limits.

I knock crab out with acclaim. That said, I believe there are others that work better, but are not registered in NY.

I think the bigger question is why did crapgrass grow in the lawn to begin with?

Ok, heres the story. This was a customer I gained after purchasing a business from someone else. She was a single mom who just wanted her yard mowed by me and she hired Middleton to take care of the rest. Her back yard was infested with crabgrass, and all this time she thought she was paying Middleton to kill it off. The crabgrass has been an issue ever since I have started mowing for her. She was recently told by Middleton that they can no longer treat crabgrass and that she was to put a baking soda and water mixture on the crabgrass to kill it off. Well, she got married and now her husband who I've never met called me today to tell me that they are going to temporarily use someone else (which I know is just a nice way of telling me they found someone else) to cut the grass while he treats their crabgrass infestation. I talked to a smaller PC company in another neighborhood to ask if they treated crabgrass and he told me that they outlawed the chemical used in 1999 to treat it, and that I needed to find a solo op because there are some people who still treat it. I am not licensed to do chemicals so I don't touch them. I always tried to talk her into letting me cut the crabgrass out and resod the areas but she seemed like it was not a concern with her at the time.

Too bad you couldn't have used the YardMan Clause.

Are you able to treat pests in lawns or just in beds under that clause? I know it requires no larger than a 4 gal. handheld tank and the homeowner's chemicals, but wasn't sure what areas I am able to treat. If you know a little more about it please let me know, I have a few customers with concerns.

Is the yard man clause a national thing?
