  • pesticide labeling ( the word phytotoxic )

ok, i know what the word means but i am unsure as to what it means in this particular labeling. ( THIS PRODUCT CAN REMAIN PHYTOTOXIC FOR A YEAR OR MORE ) does that mean if it were to get on a plant which hopefully it doesn't or does it mean something else?

    Phytotoxic means injurious to plants.

It means it still may remain harmful for over a year after application - as your mentioned pesticides persistance is quite high in the environment - usually due to the low volatility & chemical stability of the pesticide.

Typically you want to select a pesticide which will degrade quickly. In your case, if this pesticide where to come in contact with a plant...say after 9 months, there is a very good chance it'd have adverse health effects on the plant - usually this is unwanted.

Say a stupid farmer sprayed his crop field with a pesticide which remains phytotoxic for 1 year. Stupid farmer comes in 6 months later and plants a new crop in the same field. Stupid farmer wonders why his new crop looks like hell.

    Hopefully I helped??

i was getting confused because another label said ( phytotoxic. do not spray on plants ) so i got kind of lost when they are giving you a warning with a time frame using the word again. you gotta understand i'm getting old.

Was this label for a non-herbicide, say an insecticide perhaps? I could understand why this label would say "Phytotoxic, do not spray on plants."
