  • split apps- anyone

Did a trial test on two props this year. Split apps of .019 dimension, while the rest of my props, I did not do split applications. Very good results on the two prop where we used split applications, crabgrass only on a couple edges. The others did okay, but not as good as the two with split apps. Anyone else using two pre-ems?

i'll add to your thread. i used 2 apps of barricade. a buddy of mine used dimension this year instead of barricade, which he used in the past. barricade-no crabgrass as of yet. dimension - crabgrass. i have a lady who cut me short on the second app. cause she thought she had crabgrass in april which was dallisgrass. pita. i mowed today and she has crabgrass all over. two apps. is the way to go plus double your $$$. still learning in hooterville.

I'll have to say, I'm a little disappointed with Dimension.

HOWEVER, we had strange weather here this year, and I'm nearly positive environmental conditions played a huge factor with the Dimension as well.

Skool Time Steve: Let's go back to the basics on how a pre-emergent works. You spread the pellets (assuming you're not doing a liquid app). They get watered in. They eventually dissolve to form a very thin protective blanket over the lawn. This 'blanket' is what kills emerging craPgrass. So theoritically you DID have craPgrass emerge, it just got killed. ANYHOW, now what happens if that blanket layer is disturbed? What happens when the soil is at field capacity (ya know what this means my student? err.....janitor?) and you have no choice butt to mow the lawn. Obvously the soil will be distrubed, perhaps to the point this delicate blanket layer is comprimized? Or....how about the mower tire tracking over a bare spot in the lawn, tire smashing through the wet soil....craPgrass could theoritcally grow now since that pre-emergant layer has been distrubed. Yes?

Add to that, Dimension's effects only last but a few months. We had the 3rd wettest May in my city's history. With all that rain........well.......I'm sure it reduced the longevity of the Dimension.

So overall, yeah I disappointed, but I can't say for certain just HOW good it is since the weather here was in craPgrass's favor for a good chunk of the growing season. That said, most my lawns don't have a problem, just the ones with a previous history of the craP.

I wished I would have used Barricade on a few lawns to compare the differences. Butt seriously, what chems are available to me is very limited.

BTW: I applied a split app as well, same .019 as JR. Twice is nice. One ain't the way to go...........

i might be a hick, but i do know a few things. i checked some more yards out today that i did barricade on and all is good. i had one today that had split apps of dimension and it has alot of crabgrass in it, i'll stick with barricade. i could be wrong on this, but i think dimension covers more sq/ft than barricade, therefore i would assume you better cover good when applying.
