ATTN Sporty...
I created this thread, so I have control over it.

I hereby request you keep your scrubby remarks off of this thread. You ain't even a certified applicator and likely won't be for a very long time, if ever. I don't think you can even begin to phantom why us licensed applicators don't like to see unlicensed riff-raff spraying Ortho Weed-B-Gone just for a quick buck.
Thank you,
MM

What MM said; however, I'd like to answer you on this.Originally posted by spotremix View Posti don't not consider it my job to educate illegal businesses. my job is to service paying clients. not take care of lawn monkeys who incorrectly and unsafely spread fert. and pesticides.
I have turned in guys to the WA regulators and let them sort it out. The primary state regulator in WA State is the dept of Agriculture. They will take the education approarch on the first offense and encourage the offender to go do the course work, take the test, and get licensed. The 2nd offense, no mercy.
They fine a number of applicators every year who should know better. Lets say that as the certified applicator, I send Sporty out to make an application for me, but I don't give him any PPE or instruction, or supervision. Sporty will get a slap on the hand but I, the applicator gets a stiff penalty and license suspension. If I did it again, my a$$ would be grass and the regulator is the lawn mower.
That's the way it is and should be.

depends on how they are illegal. if you mean lawn operations, operating with out liability and commericial insurance it's not my business to turn them in. otherwise i can't think of how else a lawn company would be operation illegally. except hiring i'llegal immigrants.Originally posted by delasgh View Postenough of them and you won't have any paying clients. get with the program sporty.....................

i'm a keep to myself kind of guy steve. i don't pay much attention to what the other companys are doing except noticing there equipment from time to time to see if they have anything good, or new that i haven't seen yet. i pretty much do my work and keep trucking. so far the only place i've gotten advice from is this lawn forum. i only know maybe 2 other guys that are in this business that live in my neck of the woods and the one guy is just like me, he minds his own business. he's been doing this business since 99.

I see guys all the time with a backpack sprayer on the truck who I know aren't licensed. 99.9% of the time, they are using it to squirt some Round-Up knockoff or Ortho's Weed-be-gone, or some other homeowner watered down crap they get off the selves at the local hardware store. 99.9% of the time I will ignore them and occassionally will turn them in on a slow day for sheets and giggles on my part to add some excitement to their normally dull and boring life.
But if I see somebody with a spray tank bigger than 4 gallons and they are in some beater truck that is obviously not like those of us in the big leagues with our company name plastered all over our rigs, I'll get enough info to turn him/her into the State of WA.
Clclawn is right on the mark.

In west tn. we have one inspector for most of the area, this lady is on our side. She stops by and visits me about 5 or 6 times a year for records inspections. The previous inspector I seen him about 5 times in 16 years. As for turning them in, yep. I don't approach them, I just get the information and call her. She does the rest. It costs us about 8K a year for Liability, Licenses, Bond, etc. plus having to put up with all the regulations and the risk of being sued every day. If I have to do it, your gonna do it or pay the 1K fine ( in my area) If you don't want to be hasseled with me turning you in, keep to mowing grass.
