Water softener is potassium chloride. What is Potassium Chloride? "Muriate of Potash" or MOP a element of Fertilizer. BTW also sold to fat people as Light Salt in place of Sodium Chloride

hahahaaha! I know and you know,, but a lot of other people don't know.

I was just trying to create some sort of intelligent conversation within the green industry. Guess it was a sorry attempt. I'll go back and sit in my corner now.

I tried to give you the answer to your question but the jerks got into the thread. I would rather bust their chops than give any real useful information.

Most farmers will say Potassium sweetens the soil because it does raise pH. However potassium is also a luxury nutrient in the fact, plant will up take all available potassium. Many combined systemic pesticide products are tied to potassium because plants up take potassium so well.

Herbicides like RU have a very long mixed life. High pH will cause them not to work as well after some time has past. However with the average yard boy like your self mixing 2 gallons at a time the pH shouldn't play as a factor. But if you Want, add a acidifier pentertant like Loveland's LI-700 to your RU for faster knock down and longer mixed life. Of course this all goes back to the water quality that you start with. In the case of Certainty herbicide, I add baking soda to my 6 pH well water because it works better and longer at a 9 pH.
