What's the best price you can find (50#) and why do you like it versus other time release prodcts????

i would think the proper way would be to find out what the plant being installed needs vs the same slow release for all. i'm sure somebody like scaper or the yardrat might have more info. college boy might even know.....

Not all time-release fertilizers are created equal.

Osmocote is more for nursery production. :alien: I could see it being used for annual planting, maybe even when installing perennials, but not trees and shrubs.

I understand and appreciate the responses, gents, but the question was what's your price and why is Osmocote (if you do use it) your choice vs other time releases

Yo, this is jest my opinion, but I wouldn't even pursue this matter any further. Osmocote for tree and shrub planting is a waste of resources. Let's not mislead the riff-raff amongst us....ok? :alien::alien::alien:

Why do you think its a waste of resources?

Nurseries use it, I think Scaper or Scott use it (if my memory serves).

I'm just trying to see if anybody has some fisrt hand info as to whether it's worth the$$

If Scaper jumped off a bridge, would you?

I ought to charge you for my time...............

Yeah, nurseries DO use it (I already told you that). But it's incorporated with a potting media (mixed together), then tossed into a pot.

Tell me how this could be done while landscaping without wasting labor resources? You'd have the till the osomcote into the soil. But now let's consider why you would want to fertilize an entire shrub bed when the shrub (or tree) root ball only take up so much space. Osmocote doesn't last forever afterall....maybe 9-12 months if you are lucky. You're working your butt off and wasting fertilizer (resource). Inefficient I say.

Now if someone is just applying Osmocote on the soil surface around the plant right after installation.....well, that's just retarded (for more than one reason).

Who cares if Scaper uses it? Who really cares if Scott uses it? I don't. They don't write the standards for horticulture, nor did they go to school for it.

college boy does know a few things and i would trust his judgement on this. that is not saying scott or scaper don't know anything on this subject.

you didn't state your application in your 1st post but overall I think it's too expensive and I haven't used any osmocote product since I joined the green industry.

Your best bet is to become friends with you local bulk fertilizer dealer. They'll move you along in the right direction for your locale.

You didn't offend me, no-one has. #10's reasoning to use Osmocote made no sense, and I informed him of that. That's all. :alien::alien::alien:
