• Fertilizing, Can We?

I was wondering if someone can help me. I have been told by a lawn guy that I can be fined $1500 for just having a spayer on my trailer. I am not certified for spraying lawns, so I do not. But I do like to use round-up for driveways. I was told that was illegal. What about granular? I spoke with the State of Florida
they said it was reccomended but not required. I spoke with PLCAA and they said that I can use round-up and granular. This guy said I can't. I have run into this a lot lately, can someone tell me what it really is? I am located in Jacksonville, Fl.

    Thank YOu,
    Tina

From what I hear, in Florida you have to go through an 8 hour class and it cost about $200.00. Getting through the state of Florida you have to have been in business for 2 years before you can qualify. But you can find seminars where you can get it cheaper and it only takes 8 hours of you day. There is a guy named Bob Kessler who holds those classes all over. He also has an at home course you can take. I'm going to work on getting mine. Thanks Guys, Tina

If you want (BIG) sources of revenue it's really simple. Go bid on BIG PROPERTIES ... that's where the big money is.

Tina in order for you to spray any kind of pesticide in the state of Florida you must meet all of these critias:

have been in the industry for three years with proof

have a minimum liability of $400,000 aggregate insurance

then take an 8 hour class from this funny guy and renew yearly with 4ceu's

pesticide is a generic term meaning herbicide, rodenticide, insecticice etc...

Once you're licensed you still have many restrictions such as; you are still unable to apply anything to a lawn except plain fertilizer, you're sent a mailing of people that have allergic reactions to chems in your county and futher limitations apply as far as how close you can spray to their property.

The PCLAA is wrong about what you can use here in the state of Florida w/o a license. Without this license you are unable to spray roundup, malathon, dursban, 2,4d, oils, soaps, etc... You cannot have a sprayer on your vehicle or any type of chemicals. They look at this as intent to illegally use. The only thing you can put out is straight fertilizer. No weed n' feed, or bonus S, no super-duper bug killer w/fertilizer added or anything of the sort, just fertilizer.

Minimum fine is $500, maximum is $5000, and that is per occourance
search for bobkessler.com for futher info on getting licensed in the state of Florida, or contact your local county extention.

              Hope this helps

You can have a sprayer on your truck without a license if it contains vinegar and orange oil. It's the toxic stuff they worry about. Try to have someone arrest you for carrying vinegar. Won't happen.
The reason for licensing on pesticides and herbicides is because most of them are highly toxic and many are known cancer producing agents.
Me, I stick to things that work and don't threaten my life or the lives of my clients and their children.

Not trying to start a debate but I suggest doing a Google search for "vinegar as an herbicide" and you can start there. No license required.

Doesn't matter if you need a license or not, those products are not labled for lawn care use and that makes them illegal.

Weather you have a license or not the "ONLY" thing you can apply is straight fert like was said in scott's posts. That's it that plain and simple.

You can apply it throught the spray tank in liquid forum, but I guess not in FLA like Scott said.

I guess Florida is different because the Vermont State Aggie Dept. told me that I am free to spray as much pickling vinegar and orange oil as I want without falling under their auspices.

It is strongly recommended that you follow your State regulations as a violation can be a real pain to clear up.

I live in Florida and i have been dealing with whole round up and fertilizer thing also. I went down to deland and talked to a guy at the agrictulre center. You can spread straight fertilizer only all day long as for the round up and such it works like this.

Like everybody else was saying you have have to be in business for 3 years pass a class and 400,000 in liability. Although I was told by the guy down there that under the yardman clause, if you customer buys the material and keeps it their then you can spray it in ornamental beds. Make sure not to take this stuff with you and dont buy it your self. Explain to your customers that laws are hard and that you only want to do the right thing.

See if you can find a lesco in your area they have some real strong round up type stuff that you can recommend that your customer buy. They dont joke around with those fines either. In the daytona area they actually have investigators that sit at 7elevens and other places lawn guys hang out and wait to see them use round up or put some in their truck.
