  • What's a good organic pesticide for weeds?

I'm curious if anyone knows of a good organic pesticide for killing weeds. By good, I mean something basically harmless to the environment as well as being a product that can do its job.

There are many ways to kill weeds w/o organic pesticides that are much more eco-friendly, but some weeds are stubborn as hell and require something a bit strong. I really appreciate any suggestions.

Vinegar works well, as does boiling water. Fire always works. If you want something really strong, add some orange oil extract to the vinegar. Just watch it though, it'll kill more than just 'weeds.'

Yeah, Vinegar normally does the trick, but I was looking for something stronger. I'll try that, Thanks!

Not everyone is into chemicals. I thought as you do. Until I've read more on the subject. I'm still not imprested with the Idea, but if the Gov, has it's way, it might end up being all we have left......................Eitherway, it's always better to be prepared to diversify then be left holding onto something that ends up inobtainable.

              horticultural vinegar

Hey if anyone is trying to find something organic to spray that works, use horticultural vinegar. I found it at a local garden store. I has a much higher acidity than normal vinegar (5% versus 20%). It works by dehydrating the weeds thus killing the roots. You have to spray in the sun, so chances are it won't work on a shady lawn, but it works like a charm. Just as good as chemical pesticides in my experience.

And to delasgh's reply...do some research and trials before making a reply which you obviously have no education on (organic pesticides). I've been using it and it works. It only works for spot spraying so in turn for only some accounts, but chance are spraying pesticides all over our ground probably isn't the safest thing . Ever see that sign on a container of pesticides?

If anyone knows of an organic spray that works when spraying a whole lawn that won't kill the grass let me know. I'm still looking into it, but a local company claims to be using organic spray for the whole lawn.

Yeah I did. I can't remember how I figured out about horicultural vinegar, whether it was here or internet research, but it works great.

My next question was is anyone knows of a spray that is organic that won't kill grass, basically something you can spray on the whole lawn. Their are quite a few guys with websites (not in Oklahoma where I live) that are using organic weed-control. I'm thinking about asking what they spray

Focus on prevention by using corn gluten meal.

I read something about clove oil for weeds. Research that.

Boraxo in solution works great on creeping charlie/ground ivy. As far as I know, it is the only plant that is so sensitive to boron that a small added amount, while not harmful to other plant growth, will wipe ground ivy out. Manual removal is required, but the boron kills and stiffens the vines so it all rakes up very easily (this gets rid of seed heads and roots that might have survived. Plants require boron, but cc is very sensitive to excess.

Can any of these be used in business legally? CGM, and I think the clove oil, are in products labeled for weed suppression or prevention, but I doubt the borax is. You'll have to check your state regulations.
