  • $1800.00 Fine............

i was at my supplier this afternoon and a guy from one of the local nurserys came in to buy some algicide for their irrigation pond. he started saying how at least he could put this in his own pond without a permit. then he started on how could one of his amigoes get a permit when they don't offer the class in spanish. i asked him why does he need his amigo licensed? he replied that his amigo was at a church spraying round-up with a back-pack and the state guy happened to just be driving by. he couldn't believe they nailed his company for such a minor thing that anybody can go buy and put down. i laughed at him and told him point blank that i bet his amigo didn't have his back-pack labeled, probably had on no ppe, and just the fact he was an amigo drew suspicion to the state guy. good for the state.............. i also told him to look up on the state web-site and he could see for himself how expensive these fines can get for these bigger companys. he didn't say if the amigo was fined also. i wished now i had asked.............

I agree to a point. But what I think is a bit ridiculous is that they could have given the spray to a 10 yr old from the church and the kid could have dumped it all over the lawn with a turkey baster.....with no fines.

I'm sure there are many chemicals out there that can be "dangerous". But let's get real......if it can be purchased from Lowes and a kid can put it down, and even put down 10x more than is needed......with no fines.

Then why should a grown man that does it for a living have to worry about fines if they are spraying the same exact thing on a lawn that a kid can buy??? Especially when the grown man doing it for a living is 99% more likely to be doing it properly.

It was Round Up. I mean come on, anyone can buy it from Walmart or even some grocery stores. It's a bit nuts to give out $1800 fines for spraying Roundup.

i have to follow it, why not this ole hulio????? i don't know about ohio, but here in hooterville i have to show proof of insurance every year to the state. i think it's a min. of $300k that you need to have for a pesticide permit. i have to pay $70 every year for my pesticide business permit, $50 every year for my applicator permit, and another $50 for my fertilizer and lime permit, plus on top of that another $50 every other year for a recertification class. not to mention any time involved. i think it's bullcrap that these bigger deals have all these hulios running around making them $$$ and not paying what i have to pay. i know smaller operations that do it too. i actually know two guys that i've been friends with for along time who are guilty as hell also. i would never rat them out, but if they ever get caught i'll be the first to laugh at them.

Yeh, I understand exactly what you're saying. You have to pay a little extra for a piece of paper. Let's be honest, when you got your license, did you learn a new and improved way of applying Roundup.......that wasn't written on the container's directions? Nah.

Needing a license to spray Roundup or the typical Weed-b-Gone that can be purchased at Lowes is just one more way for the government to grab some $$$$ from you. Fining someone $1800 for spraying Roundup is just crazy.

To me, it's about as stupid as the DOT numbers. I've yet to figure out what the heck they're actually for. Just more paper work giving the officer another reason to write you a $500 ticket......to pay his salary. What does a DOT number do that a license plate number can't do????

But of course, when you get your DOT number, we think it's kinda funny if someone gets busted without one. But we forget to question why we even needed it in the first place.

"Hey, you didn't have Round Up written on your tank!! $1800 fine"

"Hey, you're spraying Round Up better than anyone I've seen, but where is your $100 piece of paper? $1800 fine."

"Hey, look at Little Jimmy spraying Roundup on his sister's hair.....oh well."

I'm not really trying to argue here. but it's just RoundUp. I mean, you mix it by the directions, you aim for weeds you want to die. A 10 yr old can buy it and apply it. Why do professionals need a piece of paper and a class to be allowed to do that? Just Roundup.

Heck, one could argue that gasoline is a LOT more dangerous. Imagine if they make you get licensed to start filling up the lawn mowers!

"You can buy the fuel, you can have it on your truck. But you are NOT allowed to fill your mower tanks without a license." Little Jimmy can though.

That's my great analogy of the day!

If the government wanted to make some real coin they should go after all these
company's hiring illegals and fine the **** out of them.

I was at home depot last week behind 2 hulios at the checkout who were buying cases of round up. I wonder what the chances are that they are legal much less licensed and certified to spray.

$1800.00 is retarded. Yeah, we know he's wrong. We all pay for our pesticide bs, here in NY, more than you likely. Like Erich says, even dot #s is retarded, far as I'm concerned, it's a big target, plain & simple. More Gov bs taking my $$$.

Homeowners can get away with it.

But, when you hire, you better show records.

                  R-up?

I have a mowing friend of mine who's scared to death to spray anything.
If you recieve $$$$$ via, mow or otherwise, your liable to have a lisense to spary...............................! God I love the Law!

I agree that it is ridiculous to get fined for roundup, I can understand other chemicals though. In FL I can't even have roundup in the cab of my truck when my trailer is attached. But the only one that can fine me is the DOT guys, and they're few & far between.
