  • Pre Emergent for Gardens

Hey guys i hear of people using a product like Preen in the gardens for annual flowers and mulch. Is it worth the time to do this and what about the flowers does it affect their growth. I plant about 30000 annuals a season and weeding consumes to much time. Or do u have other suggestions.[?]

Preemergence herbicides are applied to a site (lawn or garden) prior to weed seed germination. This type of herbicide controls weeds during the weed seed germination process.

If the weed can be seen, it is too late to apply a preemergence herbicide.

Preemergence herbicides are primarily effective for the control of annual weeds. These type herbicides require rainfall or irrigation water to move the herbicide into the upper one to two inches of the soil profile. Most preemergence herbicides require 0.25 to 0.5 inch or rainfall or irrigation water within seven days of application. If adequate water is not received in the time frame, weed control will generally be poor.
