  • Newbie to weed control

I'm just getting started in the business and we've got a few lawns in the neighborhood that are COVERED in weeds to say the least. I'm needing some advice on how to take care of these issues when I go to bid for a job. I'm not the expert at all on weeds but I need to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated on how to take care of these and also bill for them as well.

What weeds are present??? One can not properly control or implement IPM without knowing some general knowledge of weed identification and classification.

Weed identification and classification is the first step in controlling weed infestation in the turf. Once a weed has been identified, the certified applicator can then determine which method of control best suits the current situation. In most weed infestation situations chemical control is necessary, but if you implement IPM chemical control can be minimized.

          Mr. Green Escapes,

Which weed(s) in particular are you referring to? If you are unable to identify the weed(s) with your present knowledge, use this link http://www.ppws.vt.edu/weedindex.htm as reference to identify the weed(s) and get back to us.

If you're not licensed for pesticides you could always "sub" it out until you are but (own) the work if a repeat customer and make sure you get a cut of the subs "action" ... 10% to 20% is typical, don't be shy in asking.

Here's a link to learn about weeds www.plcaa.org

Thanks for the links guys. I really need to study up on the different types of weeds before I should get into it. I think I'll sub it out in the mean time until I'm able to actually identify the weeds.

They also have a treatment page for what type of product to treat each weed.
