  • My mower spreading bug?

Help, I'm getting a small bug with a white strip on its back at almost all my sites. Small patches so far. There is a pesticide ban here so I'm not sure what to do, and there probably using my mower to spread.

    suggestions, help?
    Thanks

Spray your mower with WD-40. hang a bag of mothballs from your engine mounts. Transplant preying mantis egg sacs to all your sites.

Lets see if I can help you through the thought process to eliminate whether you are the problem or not. Are you collecting the grass clippings in the back of your truck? Could the insects be riding on the clippings left on your mower between properties? Could the insects possibly be riding on your crew's boots and pants legs? Think through the entire process of how they could be being transported by you.

We perform maintenance services within a Citrus Canker Quarantine Area. We have to: Spray down all of our equipment with an anti-bacterial solution before entering and leaving each property; Spray an anti-bacterial soap solution on the crew member's boots, pant legs, arms or other body parts which might come in contact with plant material; blow all grass clippings off of equipment before loading onto trailer; double-bag all debris from trimming and mowing and leave it at each clients property, all to prevent the spread of Cirtus Canker.

Before you go to this extreme, look at your operations to determine whether or not you are spreading the insects with your activities. The solution may be as simple as blowing off your mowers on each property before you load your equipment. If you feel the need to spray down your equipment, you could possibly use a Pyrethrin solution. Pyrethrin are considered "organic pesticides" and could be possibly used in your situation. Pyrethrins are commonly used in pesticides such as wasp spray, ant & roach killers, etc. and are derrived from natural sources. Its use may possibly be acceptable in your pesticide free zone.

They are not spreading from your mower. If they are not doing damage to your lawns, then why worry?
