Earthway spreaders

A friend of mine owns a nursery/wholesale landscape supply. He sold me an Earthway 2100 spreader, which is an estate speader, not commercial or professional grade. This was my first mistake. He said it is what his crews use and I shouldn't spend the big bucks on the professional grade 2600 series. All the bags of of whatever I am putting down list the appropriate setting for the 2600 series. Is it the same for the 2100, I don't know? My friend has been putting down applications for 20 years and he says he doesn't go by what the bag says. He says you just have to get a feel for it and judge for yourself how much you want to put down. This is my first season in the business and that is not a reasonable answer. Does anyone know if the 2600 and the 2100 get set on the same number.
