applicator for North Carolina. Anyone willing to give some helpful hints on the test for Ornamentals and Turfgrass test? Should i take the class offered at NCSU? The class is $45 with books(this will also include the test on day two of the class) . I'm thinking it sould not be that hard here in NC. Just looking for any helpful hint your other NC plp may have to offer.

Not what you're looking for, but...

I am signed up for the Pesticide (Ornamentals and Turf) class Nov 4 and 5th in Dallas, NC. You can't beat the cost ($45 for class, material and test!) and 2 of my associates who have went that route said the test was quite easy after the class. Prolly a good opportunity to meet some local Lawn Care dudes, too.

I have the study material, which they send out once you pay the $45, and have read through it. The information very basic and straightforward.

The hard part is getting the class and exam information. I actually had to call my local Extension office to get the web links. Geez...

Hey Guys no Sweat..

The class is pretty informative, as the lectures pretty much hint on what is being tested. Try to read through the manuals briefly before the class to familiarize yourself with the material. They will go through all the chapters and highlight what is important. Try to do some of the exercises at the end of each chapter after the first day of the class.

Oh study well on the ornamentals manual (the speciality) obviously being our future trade you should take the most interest in really understanding this stuff. Read up and ask the instructor a few questions during the morning lecture the second day. After that chill out eat a good lunch and knock out the exam. If you don't know it yet you will never know it so don't cram a hour before.

Oh the law and regulations you will only have maybe like five questions, basics like who is in charge of the pesticide board?

NC's license program seems to be there to try and ensure common sense safety and prevent accidents. If you take anything away from the class most important
Reading the MSDS and chemical labels is law, read before any chemical usage it will prevent mishaps.

I hope for the more interesting good stuff from the UGA program.

I also have got on my Extention's mailing list. They will send you out news letters on different things periodically. Like when they are having annual refresher classes and problem areas that they have run into or have had questions on for our area.

I also picked up alot of good booklets on different types of grasses and weeds for our area.

As far as the pestisides go I think the only way you can get certified here in NC is through the NCSU classes.

Not just classes...

You can pay a fee and take the license test. The class is not required. You can self study the materials at your own pace, then attempt the exam. Should you not pass, you'll have to pay again to take it.

The test is extremely easy in my opinion. I briefly just studied the manuals and didnt take the classes and passed with a 90/100. Like stated its about 5 or 6 questions about the laws, then basically half and half about the core material and the other half ornamentals and turf section. At the end there are a few questions about measuring an area and formulating the amount of pesticide you will need. And you have to correctly read a label and answer questions on that.
