My better half has worked at a vet's office for 17 years, and I think she'd say to try the topical stuff that goes on your dog. I forget the brands, but it goes in between the dog's shoulder blades once a month, just a liquid or gel I think.

Mike, Advantage is the little tube of about 2 drops of stuff you put on an animal once a month. It is actually imidacloprid, also known as Merit in the green industry. It does a number on fleas for sure. If a flea jumps onto an animal treated with Advantage, and remains on there for just 2 seconds, then jumps off, it will die anyhow. Amazing stuff.

If I was going to treat a whole yard, I would use beneficial nematodes. I have read that properly applied, they will kill 90% of flea larvae in the first 24 hours. They will continue to live in the soil for a long time (since Transman is in Florida, no worries about them having to winter over), and will kill other nasties in and on the soil as well. I plan on pushing them on my customers come spring.

                      Transman

Frontline Works good however it might be necessary to treat the House and Yard to get rid of them.

FLEA CONTROL IS EGG CONTROL. Flea eggs can stay dormant for more than a year. Or they can reproduce very quickly 28 day life cycle. Vibration and Carbon Dioxide will cause flea eggs to hatch. If you have a Flea infestation in your house Try "Precore" it comes in a spray can. You can buy it at Lesco. Read the label. This of course is inside pest control and if you were to do at your customer house you would need a GHP Pesticide license from the State.

Out Side treatment should be done every 30 days for at least 3 months in a row to control fleas. Talstar in a spray tank would be the best way to treat. Spray everything wall to wall Shrubs, Trees, and Lawn. If your neighbors don't have a regular pest control Fleas can be a real problem. If you don't have a spray tank then Talstar granules would be the second best. Talstar is a Pyrethrum and is safe for mammals but not birds or fish.

                        Flea Control

Successful flea control is dependent on treating the habitat, and the animal. At this time of year the outside may not be necessary, depending on your location. I'm in Florida and fleas are a year round problem from Central Florida on down.
For your pet, pay close attention on the weight restrictions for the oral doses. If you choose a topical (external) read the label carefully so you are clear on how it works, where and when to apply it. Most products contain warnings on applying it on puppies, underweight, or sick animals.
Indoor fleas can be a challenge. Believe it or not you can remove huge amounts of adult fleas and the other stages just with a vacuum cleaner, especially the type with a rotary rug beater attached. Fleas can exist on all interior surfaces including carpeting, tile, wood, concrete, furniture, etc. Remember they are now in the vacuum and if you just put it back in the closet you have accomplished nothing. Replace the bag at once. If it's one of the new bagless types clean it thoroughly..........outside.
If you decide to use a pesticide indoors read the label to help you choose. All products are definitely not the same and you will want one that includes an insect growth regulator (IGR) to control egg and larvae hatching. No products prevent the final stage (pupae) from hatching.
For the most part, flea collars have not been successful.
                        Good Luck!
