        Welcome to the Business World. Don't forget Insurance as in Contractor Liability, Unemployment, SS, Worker Comp, and of course Truck. You might want to insure your equipment from loss while you are at it. Of course the job is not over until the paper work is done. So don't forget the Accountant and Bookkeeper. Isn't Small business Fun??? Everybody gets rich when they own their own business. Right.

          You don't need a pesticide applicators license to seed.

            But you will need it to fertilize and spray weeds so the lawn comes in plush.

              RRS You don't need a pesticide applicators license to seed.

              bare with me as i don't know how to use the quote. i went deeper into the site and it looks like anything that you put on or in the ground and charge a fee for it then one has to have a license to do it. go to regulatory services and click on seed and click on who needs a license. $50 for this and $50 for that. VIRGINIA .

                You can put down seed without an applicators license, but like Rich mentioned to doit right you are going to probably need to add some kind of ammendment to the lawn. If you're thinking about offering seeding as a service you might as well get certified so you can offer the full package and do it right. This is what it states under who needs a license.

                Who needs to be certified to apply pesticides in Virginia?

                Private Applicators

                * Apply restricted use pesticides
                * Produce an agricultural commodity
                * Apply pesticides on their own land or that of their employer

                Commercial Applicators (For Hire)

                * Use any pesticides on others' property in exchange for compensation
                * Must work for a company with a Pesticide Business License

                Commercial Applicators (Not for Hire)

                * Use any pesticides as part of job duties, on property owned or leased by them or their employers
                * Use pesticides as a government employee
                * Use pesticides on any area open to the general public at the following establishments: educational institutions, health care facilities, day-care facilities, convalescent facilities;
                * Use pesticides where open food is stored, processed or sold
                * Use pesticides on any recreational land over five acres.

                Registered Technicians

                * Operate under the supervision of a commercial applicator when applying restricted-use pesticides
                * Have not completed the requirements for commercial certification
                * Can apply general use pesticides without supervision

                You will also need a pesticide business license before you can take the test.

                How to apply for a Pesticide Business License

                1. Complete an Application for Virginia Pesticide Business License.

                2. Furnish a Certificate of Insurance showing a minimum of $100,000 for property damage, $100,000 for personal injury to or death of one person, and $300,000 per occurrence.

                3. Mail the application form, certificate of insurance, and a check or money order in the amount of $50.00, payable to the Treasurer of Virginia to: Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services P. O. Box 526 Richmond, Virginia 23218

                4. The applicant for a Pesticide Business License or his employee must also pass a written examination prior to being issued a business license. However, if the applicant or his employee is certified as a commercial applicator, the exam requirement is waived.
