any body no how warm it has to be before you put iron down before it will work and the same with prem thanks

You are a wealth of mis information. Crab Grass and many other Northern Weeds requires a constant soil temp of 55 degrees to start to germinate. Soil Temperature should be taken just after sunrise when it is the coolest. When the temperature stays above 55 for at least 3 days, apply your Pre-E.
Up take of Iron depends on many factors. Soil temperature is but one small factor. pH and microbe activity as well as the form of Iron used. Ferrous Sulfate will be more available than Ferrous Oxide. Chelate's can be absorbed at any time of the year regardless of growth. However they are only of value if the plant is actively growing.
