Best Sprayer for starting out

I have read about hand sprayers, backpack sprayers, etc. but I am hoping to get some specific suggestions on the type and brand of sprayer I should get. I will just be doing residential lawns for this year and probably next. The only place around here to get anything related to herbicide/fertilizers is Lesco. Before I go in there could anyone give me some information about the sprayers they carry and which one(s) might fit my needs.

Thanks for the links. Based on what you said then you rarely use any type of spray? So you put down all granular for every application? I think I remember reading that others put down granular except for broadleaf. Is that the best way to go, in your opinion?

Tex I am licensed so spraying isnt an issue. I am just wondering what peoples preference/experiences are with the type of applications they put down.

Does anyone just use granular for everything except certain applications like Broadleaf?

Truer words were never spoken. Anyone who can read and write, can rewrite something they have in front off them.

However can they get the right answer? Are they knowledgeable enough to know where to go for that information and what the problem is? Can anyone get a degree in Horticulture? Can just anyone pass the test for certification in Landscape, Pesticides, Irrigation, and Arborist?

FYI Lorenzo, Woody, Sodbuster and my self are not going to take the time to research someone else question just to answer it. We have issues of are own to research. When we post to a thread we have first hand knowledge or we do not post to it as a general rule.

Interest rates are still down and real estate is a seller market. We are getting more redo from new owners than we can handle. I sold off 200 residential mowing account to ease the stress. However that is biting me in the a$$ because I have lost some spray account because the customer got mad about my selling their account. Not to worry haft of them will be back after they see the competition.

Yep anyone not making a killing now is too stupid to come in out of the rain. I have opened the nursery to retail and although it is a loser the up sells are worth the trouble. Tree supplier are my biggest problem right now. Too bad your not closer.

Ric, getting rid of the mowing is a burden lifted. You take an immediate hit on the apps, but you will get it back and usually at a higher price with new and better customers. The retail will definitely provide a constant flow potential gravy scape projects.

Yeah, I have the B&B trees and really stepped up the container plant material too. Days are long, but I couldn’t imagine doing anything different at this time.

Yes and no cash flow problems with slow pay builders. They come in for one plant and end up with a $1,500 plant replacement all the time. Sure that not the big jobs we are used to but it is great afternoon fill in work. But the longer we are in the retail end the better it will get. I mean who better to spray or trim than the Nursery guy. That great Reoccurring Revenue and god knows you need that.

I found a place to buy 1 gallon woodies for a dollar and the higher cost compared to liners is saved in labor. My mist house is no longer big enough, so this fills a real need. You are well aware of the start up and running costs of a nursery. So You better than anyone can understand the stress I am under right now. Lawn mowing was good to me. But I wish I had made the jump a long time ago. I did keep my commercial accounts and one high end neighborhood. But one 3 man mow crew can handle them easy with out too much Over Time.

Spend the $$ and get a good one for commercial work. Also buy a diaphram one as the piston types breakdown easier and they are much harder pumping (got to pump much more to keep up the same pressure). I have used swiss-Mex 15Litre ones. They are almost the same design as solos, but a bit cheaper and they have the advantage of a wider lid and a fold up handle. Ive got 3 of them and they are working a treat for me.
