  • Price to fertilize??

Do you guys who fertilize charge seperate for the actual materials? Or is it just a flat rate of 1x mow. Just curious.

You should have a calculated rate for each property, depending on the time needed and the quantity (& cost) of the product used. Generally the fertilization rate will be higher than the mowing rate, and for some products it can be significantly higher.

In many states, you cannot charge separately for product and labor involving fertilization/weed control, because state sales tax regs require you to collect sales tax on entire cost. Therefore, the norm is to charge one price for the fertilization visit.

The most common billing type used is to calculate the time and material costs for the season, then divide the total cost by the number of visits to determine the cost for each visit.

So if you have a $25 lawn that takes $10 of material for that yard. Then the bill would be $35. You are just adding in to cover your cost of fert. Right? Cause your time on the lawn has already been calculated.

The $10 number was just kinna ballparkish. But the number for materials that I add is the customers cost for the product not mine. I dont get that big of a discount only cause I dont buy enough, but every little bit helps.

I looked at the forums "How to bid fertilizer applacations" and my prices are nowhere near those. More than likely those are spray applications, which Im not licenced for yet. But my customers still look at me funny when I give them my price. And its half of what I think those spray applications are going for.

For basic weed adn feed or fertilization, I charge the same as teh mow. That way bigger jbs are priced more as thier mowing cost is already priced higher. Now for pesticide (ie...fire ant treatment) I charge almost double the mow cost as I am taking on more liability.
