  • Asking for some advice on hiring Spray tech

I looking to another hire a spray tech. Now if I hire one who has been spraying then he will bring his own bad habits. If I hire one who has never been near the business. I have a large learning curve to deal with.

Therefore my thinking is to find someone who has been in the green industry but not Spraying. Of course sober and reliable with good attitude are import. The desire to one day pass the test and be certified is also a very desirable to me. Someone working under my licenses for the required time can sit for 3 different tests 1. Pesticide 2. Irrigation 3. Commercial Landscape. I feel I have a lot to offer someone with the desire to get ahead, but don't want to spin my wheels with a jerk.

Now my question is how do I advertise to find such a person. We work year round and we don't have the advantage of plowing snow. But our summer can be very hot and humid. Sometimes we must spray in the early morning and late afternoon taking the middle of the day off. However it is not as physical demanding as lawn mowing or other type labor. No spreaders to push I have power walk behinds and Walker Mowers set up as spreader-sprayers. Of course here in the Bug Capital we will always have to drag hose. However I use 3/8 hose instead of 1/2 and the weight is a lot lighter.

The answer might be that some reader here would like to apply for the job. However, I don't think that would be you. I believe, Someone could have a great future because of this opportunity.

How many post do you read asking how to get a spray License in Florida let alone else where? Here is a way to get all the Licenses in the Florida's Green Industry a 10 billion dollar industry each year. Some people can't see the trees for the forest. Robots are all ready cutting grass. A dealer in my town sells them. No they are not the best but give them time. Man is paid more for what he knows than for what he does. There will come a day when you will not be so Young and You just might say Ric was right about education. In the mean time I will put an add in the local newspaper and start screening people. This is a long and hard process to find the right attitude. Most of the members here have their own business and are making enough money to at least own a computer and internet service. So I am not hopefully of response from this website. However the truth is this post was a backhanded Advertisement for interested party. My take is someone from this website might have the desire it takes to get ahead. Sorry but I have reached burn out stage these last few months. I do not need winers and know-it-alls. At my age I prefer to spend my time potting Flowers and giving you back the same crap you give me. You back off and I will back off.

          Ric,

It's hard to say where to advertise. Maybe at a local college or university. Sometime students are looking for part-time work to support themselves through college. That is how I started out in Computer Science and eventually became a successful consultant.

I think what you're offering is great opportunity! Check you PM.

it will take the bigger man to restrict their comments to those of positive praise.

He is of positive praise when he types what he reads in a freak'n book. C'mon man!
I will not call a treuce to someone asking for one in the same post that he starts of by shooting at me. That's a ratty move!

              The answer is simple!

Get the list of licensed pesticide operators in your area from DEP ... it's public info ... these are your "qualified" candidates. Look for somebody who has worked for TruGreen because they have the best app employee training program in the country.

Thats the best laugh I have had in a long time. Your dry sense of humor is great. All of a sudden I have a new respect for you.
