  • Lime application

I have a customer who would like me to apply lime in attempt to rid his lawn from moles, but he is worried about his stocked pond and his drinking water (well). Has anyone ever heard of lime affecting either in a negative way? When would lime reach the drinking water levels? Would it affect his fish in his pond?? Thank you.

Typical lime apps are applied at 1 lb per 1000 sq ft. At this rate i wouldnt be conerned w/ leaching if applied properly. Id avoid getting broadcasting in the pond directly but thats about as concerned as id get. Typically lime apps are introduces so slow that leaching isnt a big concern. Apply multiple apps @ 1 lb per 1000 k untill your ph is wher you need it vs. blasting the area w/ a heavy dose.

Brad, what is the customer's premise behind using lime to rid his lawn of moles? I've never heard of that idea before. Check out this link for further reading on moles.

          Casey,

Somewhere I have even heard that lime scares the moles away. I guess it makes them mad and they go to your neighbors yard or where the lime application is not. He wasnt into setting traps or anything like that, and to be honest, I think he would really like it if the moles tormented his neighbors. HAHA.....you never heard of this??

          Thanks

If you plan on being in this business for any lenght of time you better get your advice from an actual scientific source other than some old wife's tale for limestone is not a rodenticide.

And BTW applying 1 lb of lime per 1k sqft is pretty much useless.

The following link describes in detail the application of limestone and has a chart that will tell you how much to apply in reference to a soil test. That is if you are not innumerate.

Turf Advice from Penn State Extension faculty provides you with all the information you need to manage your site. From establishing your home lawn to managing various pests on your golf course, Turf Advice from the faculty at Penn State has the answers to your questions.

Hey know it all, do you know my situation?? OK then, shut it! I have a customer who ASKED me to lime his lawn. He ALSO has a mole problem. hoping that lime might take care of the mole problem too. Asking a simple question about lime apps in the area of a pond, and then the wise cracks begin. That is the problem with this forum. Some of people think they know it all, and they are "the man" sitting behind the computer. It cracks me up. You can obviously tell the professionals apart from the idiots. WHich group do you belong? Yeah ok.!! NOT

No one actually cares about your situation.

I posted the correct information so the thousands of people that read this forum will not end up in your "situation" in the future.

Actually the application of LIMESTONE will increase mole activity. When you raise the pH of the soil the turf will be able to uptake more nutrients therefore the turf will have more root growth. Therefore the area will be more attractive to grubs which is a major food source for the rodents in question.

You have been schooled now please enjoy the rest of your day.

In the movie "Caddy Shack" Bill Murry played a Greens keeper by the name of "Carl Spackler".

Possibly the Name "Caddy Shack Forum . Com" would be a better domain name. We seem to have a lot of Carl Spacklers here.

Now the point in Case is. There is one heck of a lot of MISINFORMATION being posted at this website. The main problem here is the attitude of how that mis-information is being corrected and how those corrections are being received or accepted. This thread is a perfect ex-sample of what I am talking about. Links to two different University website with the correct information, were posted. However this thread still went down hill.

I will be the first to admit I post here for fun and not information. Therefore I suggest that you set up a AOL Chat Room. Where the fish can bite the bait and the fisherman can reel them. There by leaving Lawnserviceforum to the propose you intended.

Until the gross amount of misinformation is stopped the attitude will not change.

This Thread is Locked & possibly soon to be Deleted!

Maybe if we just remind the other members that the correct information was posted & let it stay as it lay Or maybe explain in more detail (Helping) without giving them a hard time by making smart remarks.

Lets quit having a contest on who can pound & harass each other the most, if others would try this new & improved way of thinking it would help the forum a lot & more people would learn from this positive way of thinking.

Continually giving others a hard time don't get it & never will get it. I'm going to put a stop to this...

Children at some of the AOL Chat Rooms act with more Manners & IQ's than some of the so called adults do here? I do not need members here giving others a hard time.

Help, Share Knowledge or Ask Questions, that's all I ask?

People do not Learn or Help, if they get continually harassed, they will simply go the other way & it's just common sense thinking this way.

If I delete, edit & ban enough as I feel like, maybe folks will soon get the picture, Because it's not working the way it's going now?

We will share & exchange ideas in a adult like manner or....
