In the real world (my world) I have to deal with the soil type and amount of field usage without compromise.

But first I have to market myself to even get my foot in the door. Then I have to deal with low budgets and unrealistic expatiations of ignorant superintendents and buildings and grounds managers.

And as far as the amount of mowing that is needed that is not my problem and that is left for lower echelon "groundskeepers" to handle.

Sorry, Ric, I was ruined from the beginning by Mom and Dad: "If you're not gonna do it right, no sense doing it at all." You are correct, if you want to be "frugal" (syn.- chary, conserving, discreet, meager, niggardly, penny-pinching, sparing, Spartan, stingy, tight, tightwad), you don't want to talk to me. Because if you want to cut corners, you don't want the job done right.

My concern is that not very many know how to do anything right these days. If you make the effort to learn the right way, then you can use shortcuts, and understand how your shortcuts are affecting your output. Sanctimonious Piedra admittedly eschews scientific principles, so anyone who believes his hogwash about C3 ornamental turf management is getting off on the wrong foot. Remember, if you know all the answers about plants (even about any one plant), you ought to be charging a minimum $800/hr for your advice. I know I can't charge that, and you know you can't, too. Piedra tells us he knows it all, but his spouting is free (and worth nothing).

It's better for someone who wants to learn to seek out his own state turfgrass association, and find what educational opportunities are available. There is a lot out there for those working in the trade, beyond the full college course that Ric handled. Start with true scientific principles, and over time learn how they apply to your operating area.

Jim unfortunatly this thread was about sports turf but I will start an ornamental turf thread for your consideration tommorrow so you my throw spitballs from the back of the class at your teacher to prop up your fragile ego.

And one more thing it's not about doing the thing right thur your tunnel vision perspective but in all reality it's all about the Benjamins.

After less than two weeks after this application this particular recreation board cannot bestow yours truly in enough accolades. With just a "little" fertilizer I have greatly improved the overall appearance and health of the plants ten fold.

Of course some of you scrubs should not try this at home with your poorly calibrated cheapo Scott's push spreaders for you will make Zebra stripes vs. the even sea of green with my end product.

The calls are just now starting to come in from other recreation area mangers.

If you can remember just one thing from this thread is that:
