$25 an app? that seems too cheap!?

A bag of fert goes for anywhere from $10 - 20 already!!

What you charge and what someone else charges could vary drastically. Shouldn't you be figuring your own charges for applying fert? I am assuming a good way to do this would be cost of materials (fert) + labor + whatever percent over that covers your insurance/equip/licensing (if applicable)/and other expenses. Each yard has different sq footage, different types of grass. Wouldn't larger yards use more materials? Just a thought.

I agree. I charge $40/hr and mark up my fertilizer 75% to cover my expenses. I'm a little on the low side for hourly rate. Every yard is diff. and every costumer want is diff.

Roughly $13.50 for 17,500 sf, with most lawns in his area maybe 5k to 7k sf.

You sure of that? Your cost per 1000 for material alone is more than that. For 17,500, my cost for first app would be $23.62. That's just the cost of materials.

I condensed that too much. I meant for a bag that covers 17,500 square feet, I pay 13.15 +tx. Sorry about that. I'm rather new at it and was going from memory but did look up the prices, so the after tax cost was $14.13/17,500 sf bag of one type from Lesco. The point I really wanted to stress was the number of smaller lawns in that town (I used to live there) and also that those are his minimum prices and goes up from there.

Yeah thats what I thought. However, cost would also depend on what he was putting down, depending on which step, your cost per 1000 could be more.
