  • getting into fertilization

Next year I plan on adding fert application services. I right now am reading up on the subject and working on my licensing. My question is what brand of fert do you recommend and what about getting it wholesale or in bulk. I was thinking about useing scotts but they seem too expensive for the product to be competitive. I am sure I can purchase it wholesale, or in bulk somewhere but I have no idea where.

    Thanks

I'm coming into the business from the golf course business. I'll just buy my fert from my supplyers that I had in the golf course industry, I'll just buy a few ton less.

Certainly stay away from any retail fertilizer such as Lowes , Menards, etc. Not so much on quality, but you won't be able to mark up the price as much as you will if you buy wholsale.

As you study up on the subject you should find out there are organics, synthetics, quick release, slow release, Sulfur coated, plastic coated, on and on and on.

Soil types matter too. I live in sugar sand soil land and the nutrients drain through quickly.

Just learn the fert. basics and match it up with what your customers want and make sure you make a profit doing it.

I mark up my fert. up to 75% and charge $40/ hour to apply.
