Why do most snow blowers have a techumsa engine? In my opinion, they are garbage. The damn things don't even have an air filter on em. The only one that I found without that engine is the Honda snowblowers which are 3-4 times the price of your basic snow blower. I don't understand why such a garbage engine is so widely used even on the so called commercial units like john deer and husqvarna. Oh yah, the pully's and spindles all seem to be garbage too. Whats the deal?

yea I've wondered about that myself. My JD has one. Maybe they have a different design that helps them withstand the cold temps? Iono, just takin a guess there.

I agree. Why not just drop a Briggs or Kawasaki on em and be done with it. Seems like the needle & seat on tecumseh carbs is always screwing up, heard it in countless stories. Another vote for Briggs instead of Tecumseh, how bout that Transman??? I guess you could switch out the tecumseh, though.

        OHV Briggs

I have a Simplicity with an 8 hp OHV Briggs on it. Runs like a champ and always starts on the first pull no matter how cold. But it too does not have an air filter. Why, I don't know, but there really isn't and dust flying around in winter, and i can see the element getting soaked if it gets hit with some fine snow. But anyways, another vote for the Briggs.

What mowers have a snow blowing attachment. I only know of Walker, John Deere, and Grasshopper. Any others? Any one have input? Seems like would be a lot faster and reliable.

RAD makes attachments for both ztr's and w/b's allowing blowers to be put on front. I think JackD. has one or two.

The Toro Snow Commander and Toro 3650 both have Duraforce engines. Two stage blowers from Toro, Ariens, Honda, Husqrvana, MTD etc. have no place in a commercial snow removal enterprise.

Air Filters are not needed on snowblower engines for obvious reasons.

What's the obvoius reason? Air has dirt in it no matter what the season.

Say, dosen't "Toro" likes to hide the true identity of there engines with plastic and cool names like "Duraforce" So who makes "Durafarce" anyway? Tecumseh?

Moisture is the main reason blowers do not have air filters. When the filter gets wet the engine will start to starve for air and not run properly.By the way What 2 stage snowblowers do you think are worthy of commercial snow removal.

We run toro's for our single stage blowers and Honda's for our 2 stage units.
we have been running toro single stages for 20 years with no problems. I still have a

Mr. vanguardK, the Duraforce is a Toro produced engine.

Please note the legendary Suzuki engine, which was used on Toro's world famous Proline's & single stage blowers, came w/out air filter on the blowers.

Jack D. strongly recommends Toro Snow Commanders over any friction drive, or in Honda's case SD hydro drive, 2 stage snow blower. The Commander's will tackle snowfalls up to 1' with ease, throw slushy snow better than 2 stages, and are much easier to maneuver in the tight areas where snowblowers should be used.

The only mid size 2 stage Jack D. condones for commercial use are units configured w/twin hydro drives.

Then I still don't understand how the carb is to stay clean? Is there some other part on the carb that filters the air? I have never been able to look up close as there are too many covers on these techumseh engines.
