  • Will It Work

I Have a 2003 GMC 1500HD crew cab short bed 6.0L gasser HD towing pkg, duel batt., 8600 GVWR, 4410 GAWR FRONT, 6000 GAWR rear, 4:10 ratio front and rear, trans. cooler, torsion bars cranked up and front end aligned. I am also going to put Timbrens on front and rear. I am looking to put a BOSS 7'6'' Power V on it or a 7'6" BOSS Super Duty steel straight plow. The V is 790lbs. and the super duty is 709lbs. I really like the V. Thanks Mike

    Yeh, it will work.

Not a big fan of the V blades, but that's just personal preference I suppose.

I just thought the V's were more efficient

I have the Super Duty on my 1998 Chevy K1500. It works just fine. Timbrens front and rear as well.

Personally, I don't think there is ANY advantage to having a V at 7'6" over having a straight blade. V blades come into their own at much larger widths.

I wouldn't waste the money on a 7' 6" V. The Super Duty is going to do everything the V does. Yes, the V blades allow you to move a lot more snow, but you'll only see a difference on MUCH bigger blades. But hey, it's your money.

I never needed to crank up the torsion bars either. Sounds to me like you have been doing a lot of reading and are all gung-ho. That's great, but seriously, wait until you HAVE a problem before you try and solve it. You most likely won't need to adjust the torsion bars.

I have one on one of my 2000 Silverado 1500 and the torsion bars are cranked right up. With the plow up in the air, it was riding nowhere close to where it needed to be. We took measurements and adjusted.

P.S. It stays that way all year even when the plow is off.

THe truck handles it fine and plows great, but its quite a bit of weight for 1.2 ton whichever way you go. I think the Fisher V plows are even heavier yet.

              Have fun.

btammo: I take it you don't have Timbrens installed? I have them front and rear. Front end drop when the plow is loaded and in the air is quite small.

Woody, I take it you are using them? I may try them on my 1994 1/2 ton chevy, I assume a big difference when carrying the plow?

Yeah, I run them front and rear. Even when heavily loaded down, you still have a suspension. I think just about everyone who plows runs them.
