You're much better off buying a cheap older truck, Look for something that already has a plow on it. If you have the time and look around enough you can probably find an older truck with a plow for less than it would cost to put a plow on an explorer. Plows are not cheep, new they're atleast 3500 or so installed and going used is tough because you'll still spend atleast a grand getting a mount for it and wiring it up... unless you happen to find a plow that's been pulled of the same year and model of your truck, but what are the chances. Plows are brutal on trucks.... and it'll take it's toll on a small suv pretty quickly.

yeah usually the motors will last a while... the diesel's more than gas, but even a gas will last quite a while. You won't be without problems though. Just because the motor and tranny last 250-300 thousand doesn't mean that all the little things will such as the alternator, radiator, air conditioning, heat, mufflers, fuel pumps and all the stuff. Some you can live without, like the AC and some you can't like a fuel pump. But you should be able to find early and mid 90's trucks with a plow on them and under 200 thousand miles for under 4500.

Do you really need the super crew? You could find a decent reg cab for less than that with a plow already on it. dont waste your money on plowing with an Explorer. Sure you can, but the front ends on those arent made for plowing. Maybe you can get some sidewalks or snow blowing for the winter months until you can afford a truck.

Yea i think i know what i am gonna do, buy a used explorer now and get rid of my car, use the explorer for my summer maitnence truck and dailydriver then when winter comes use some cash i earned and buy a older f150 and a plow, a cheaop truck, do estimates in the daily driver, explorer and use the cheap f150 strickly for plowing, i think that will work then sometime downt he road save up enough to get rid of both trucks and buy a good looking silverado 2500 or f250 and a nice plow and use that 24/7
