My old snowblower recently died and i had heard nothing but great things about the toro snow commander from the ole jack d so I bought one. it works great takes about 5 minutes to do an average house if the snow isnt really deep. the only problem is getting it in and out of the truck. it can be done but its not fun all day when im out by myself and i dont really wanna pull my trailer for 1 blower. anyone have any tips or know of those platforms that go into the hitch for spreaders and whatnot? thanks

I'm sure your local welding shop could fab one of these units for much less than you could order one over the internet for.
How about a tailgate ramp?
You could also just purchase the el cheapo ramps that rest of the tailgate....or even economical boards would work?

You should have considered the smaller Toro, not the Commander. Unless you are constantly going through 10" of snow, there isn't enough difference to justify the extra size and weight.
Okay, but that info doesn't help much because you already bought it.
I would pass on the ramp setup.
Go get one of those little platforms that slide into your hitch reciever. They aren't to expensive at all and can easily handle that snow blower. Heck, I think they sell them at Lowes or even Walmart.a.k.a.---> Erich

maybe it's just me but i don't mind loading and unloading the snow blower from the truck bed time and time again. they don't weight that much. i'd forget getting anything and just keep loading and unloading it by hand. most do that anyway. just my 2 cent's though......

The Toro Snow Commander weighs about 120 lbs. Yeh, it can be lifted. But it wouldn't be fun on the back after a full day. Not as easy in the winter when you are fully dressed with multiple layers, etc.
Now the 75lb units? Sure.a.k.a.---> Erich

I just bought a Snow Commander yesterday, and YES it's rather heavy, it's liftable, but it's pretty bulkey and awquard to pick up. I'm just using a pair of alum. ramps that fold up. It's not as easy as loading the 2 stage blower that's self propelled, but it's light enough to give it a good hard shove and get it rolled up there. Of course I can just see me pushing, getting half way, then my feet slipping and me eating the ramps with the blower falling on my head...
I thought about one of those hitch tote things too, but I'll just see how the ramps work out for me when it snows again.
As for "you should have bought the smaller one" WHY??? The more width the better IMO. And, "you should have bought a Honda" Perhaps he's in the same boat as me, and Toro is the only good brand available. Iv'e never even seen a honda blower before, let alone a Honda dealer that sells them (all Honda dealers here are for atv's and bikes).Grasshopper 227-61"
Walker MS11-36" GHS and MT23-48"GHS w/52" discharge/mulch deck
GMC Z-71
Chevy 3500HD Dump
Dodge 2500 Dump <-- For Sale
Husqvarna and Stihl handheld equip.
20' Lawn trailer
10' PJ trailer
Permagreen Magnum
Lesco skid sprayer & spreader

When I buy another blower, it's probably gonna be another Toro 2450. Width is just fine....easily lifted in and out of the truck. Power is sufficient for our snows. Single stage can suck in our commonly wet snows, but it's always better than a shovel.
I like not having to mess with ramps. Pull up to the house, lift the blower outta the bed, and get started blowin' the snow just seconds later.

MM has a good idea with the T-2450, only 71 lbs.
The Honda 520 & Toro 2450 are 20".
Your Commander is 24". ..... Big is not always better !
But if Toro is the only game in town, what the heck...........

Jason (Hutch Lawns), I just gotta laugh... when I bought my 310 saw you were telling me I was nuts for a week because I spent the money ($30) for the 310 over the 290. Was that extra 4 inches of snow blower you got worth the $400 extra you paid for it. ****, my new blower paid for it's self already...as did my saw.
