The 52" cut Hustler FasTrak that I can afford has a single cylinder 20hp Kohler and when I first started compairing it to a few other ZTR's I thought it was a twin like all the others,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, how important is it to have a twin cylinder instead of a single cylinder in a 20 hp - 52" cut ZTR?

Hey Scott,
I finished mowing my 1.5 acres a couple of minutes before dark, the Ram Mag 50 cut the lawn fantastic! The grass is very thick on one particular part of the smoother part of my lot and the Kohler Command Pro 20 twin never even breathed hard even when I went through almost as fast as the mower would go,,,,,,, the cutting that I did while it was still light enough to see well looked great, I think I'll be making a "striper", either a roller type OR even more likely is a "sweeper" type (made out of some mining belt) attached to the back of the deck,, there's already holes there and my dealer said he'd seen a couple of people do this and that they said it worked well,,, we'll see,,,,,,,,,, I can report back (if you guys want) after a few more weeks of use to see if I still feel this way about it.

nothing like getting a new piece of machinery to make our lives easier. How long did it take you to cut your 1.5 acres? You'll get faster in time.
A roller will leave a nice effect but I might hold off a bit until I got the mowing straight lines down otherwise you'll probably be upset with yourself.

I didn't think to look at my watch before starting BUT the hour meter now shows, .8 hours, that's eight tenths of an hour , my son wasn't home at the time that I mowed yesterday so, I left an area of about 50' X 30' for him to try it out today,,,, that's what, maybe 10-12 minutes worth of mowing? I went pretty fast on the smooth spots and I don't see how I could go any faster on the rough spots,,,,,,,, I do see how I might get a little faster over time , especially when trimming around stuff.
I a way, I am really looking forward to mawing next time,,, and that's a first for me!!!!!!!!

Ended up taking one hour on the nose, that's including talking' to my son a couple of times while he was sitting there with it running..................
On another note, a LOT of people on the Internet are dead against Dixon, even before the "buy-out" , let alone since Husky bought them out,,, most seem to think that Dixon/Husky are junk BUT My dealer, who I've known for years says he'll take care of me and I believe him.
As far as how the mowers compared to one another:
Hustler FasTrak Dixon Ram 50 Mag
52" deck 50" deck
Kohler Courage Kohler Command Pro
20hp single 20hp twin
Charged IZT's Charged IZT's
12.2 gal fuel tank 5.5 gal fuel tank
Both machines had the same size wheels and tires, the Hustler has a 4 year parts & labor warranty while the Dixon has a 3 year parts/2 year labor warranty,,,,,,,,,,,, the Hustler does NOT have head lights nor a hour meter while the Dixon has both ,,,, of course these last two things had NO barring on the final decision on which one I bought.

IT HAS MORE POWER the twin cylinder
I HAVE BOTH THE SINGLE CYLINDER AND THE TWIN CYLINDER BUT THE TWIN DOES A BETTER JOB AS IN CUTTING IT DOESN'T BOG DOWN WHEN YOU GET INTO THICKER GRASS,,, WHEN I USE THE SINGLE CYLINDER I HAVE TO DO ALOT DOUBLE CUTTING ,,,Originally posted by tkcrabby View PostThe 52" cut Hustler FasTrak that I can afford has a single cylinder 20hp Kohler and when I first started compairing it to a few other ZTR's I thought it was a twin like all the others,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, how important is it to have a twin cylinder instead of a single cylinder in a 20 hp - 52" cut ZTR?
