Thanks br543oicu8! The website has also brought in business and helps shoppers to see the work they can expect to receive. The YellowPages is another can of worms. I totally agree that it's expensive. My ad costs between $8,000-$9,000 per year, but has already started to generate a lot of calls. This is my first year with the YellowPages and I'm anxious to crunch the numbers to see if it's worth it. Everyone says it produces a lot of tire kickers, but so does every kind of advertising. Even referrals can turn out to be tire kickers even though they have a higher sign on rate.
In the end, if you're just starting out or already established, the best (and cheapest) way to advertise is flyers. It's also another way of targeting specific areas so you're not spending all your time looking through your windshield.

i called the newspaper today and they quoted me a price of $6 a week for ads less than 20 words. that price sounds good if it brings in new customers. as far as flyers go, so far i have delivered around 500 flyers around town and put flyers with pull tab info in all the local businesses. the only problem i really have is that another mowing company keeps taking them down, they must be scared of a little competition. this doesn't really bother me much because i get all me flyers printed for free. they take one down and i put one right back up.

Very serious. Can you say "OUCH!"? The price takes into consideration the size of the ad, if it's color or b & ....er...yellow (lol), and how many books are distributed in the area you're advertising in. The customer rep told me that the book in Louisville generates over $18,000,000 for BellSouth. Incredible considering that Louisville is considered a small city.Originally posted by Ryan Lemonsare u serious?!?! 8-9k?/yr

i think for now ill just stick with word of mouth wich is by far much better for me plus in this one nieghborhood a homeowner put me on a yahoo list for free and everyone can look me up and there i am! im getting way more calls from that naighborhood than anywhere else and best of all its only 3mi away from my house wich is very nice im making more money there b/c of distance and dont have to spend on gas like crazy.
