      G-Man, Lou

This past year my partner and I started up a part time lawn/landscape business and we decided that advertising through newspaper, yellow pages, door hangers, direct mail & Val Pak coupons is how we would do it. Well it didn't work out all that great for us last year, only picked up a couple of weekly accounts, but we're gonna do it again, except I might talk to Steve about designing a website. However, I'm almost ready to take my Pesticide test and I'm set to go to Irrigation school in Jan, so I'm hoping that with more services to offer, our response rate will be better. Of course part of the problem could be is that we will not work as cheap as the neighborhood kid, because while I enjoy it I don't consider it a hobby but a business I hope to grow, so I'm hoping with more credentials and knowledge it will help.

I don't say all that Lou to necessarily be negative, but I'm experiencing some of the same frustration you are, and after being laid off from my full time job 9 months ago (dang Worldcom) I need to hit this as hard as I possibly can.

I guess one way I could look at it is that if we got just a few accounts a year (and kept the previous ones) and compound that over several years it would turn into a fairly lucrative investment in my future. Maybe I just need more patience.

          Lou,
By far the best response rate I ever got was quite a simple one. I printed a flyer with the tear-off phone numbers at the bottom. I then put them up on any bulletin board I could find. Libraries, Liquor Stores etc. The most effective ones, after asking people how they heard about me, were the ones I put up on the boards at ATM machines. All our local banks have bulletin boards near the ATM machines. People waiting in line will read these like you wouldn't believe.
Do the flyers with the tear off numbers. Works for me. Best of luck.

I am a part timer and don't need any more contracts at this time so I had to go and take em down cause the phone kept ringing!
