  • The 62" hydro is the bomb

Last October I bought a used 1994 Toro hydro walk with a 62" deck and a 18hp Kohler magnum with 1100 (two home owner) hours for $1000.

Well last fall I had some electrical issues with this machine. So in March I swapped out the 275 amp battery of questionable age and origin for a 425 amp battery (with a 2/05 date of manufacture) from the autozone.

This simple fix did the trick and I have installed new taller front castor wheels and tires and a new set of 15" drive tires plus all new belts.

My Toro sit down sulky has also a new pair of tires so I can sit down and run a 7 mph while still leaving a quality cut in a single pass on my sports fields.

    Pictures to follow.

That Toro sit down sulky is the Shat!

NOBODY here runs wb w/sulky! Everyone tells me the grounds to rough and hilly here for them. I am dying to get a walk behind and sulky (bull-rider? sit down? I don't know yet...) and see for myself.

Larry, sounds like the Toro is good to go bro'. Way to maintain a gem. Rarely hear 'bout pimpin w/b on the forum. Cool post.

I personally wouldn't have a WB w/o a sulky (i use the stand up models)

        Guys

You have to remember athletic fields are much smoother than the average home owners lawn. While it is true, stand up velky are easier on the back because your knees absorb the shock. The quality of the turf mowed makes a large difference in comfort levels.

As far as production a 12 MPG rider might do the job faster. But at $ 12,000 they might not be as cost effective as Professor Stones W/B. Clip Rate which relates to quality of cut will be higher with the slower moving W/B at 7 MPG.

So for the Bean Counters. Do you want to work a few minutes less on each job and pay a lot more of your margin in equipment cost and maintenance. or work just a few minutes longer and keep a higher percentage of the cheese.

Stone, you have no idea how close I was to buying that same exact mower on Ebay.

While you were down here picking it up, you should have stopped buy. I have a 2 wheel Velke you could have had. I would have set you up in my home for a few days of rest before driving back. I would have stayed at the ladies house of course!

Those are stripping chains that bend the grass down so you can see the cross cut pattern. Next time to see a professional base ball field and wonder how they get the diamond pattern in the turf you will know. By bending the grass in difference direction the sun reflexes light differently.

The hydro is quite the machine and is coming close to 3 acres per hour real life production on sports fields.

Frankly I am going to move that 18hp Magnum to be the heart one of two 62" belt drives I currently have under restoration.

And summer I am going to install a new 22hp Kohler/Kaw/Briggs V Twin including a new electric clutch into that hydro chassis with the 62" deck.

                      Am I missing something??

You're talking about a hydro walk with a sit down sulky, but the picture is of a belt drive with a stand up sulky.
