With the wider tires on the zero turn the weight is distributed more evenly therefore evening out the weight difference of the ztr vs. the walkbehind. Likewise, say you plus the sulky are 200lbs...which is going to leave the deeper rut, the one wheel where all 200lbs is on one narrow wheel OR with the 2 wheel where each wheel is holding 100lbs?.
actually I have used one with two wheels.
actually a ZTR will usually leave larger ruts because it weighs much more. Its all about the weight ratio. I gaurantee that my lawns done with my walk behind or my stander get less ruts than if mowed with a large ztr. Many of my customers neihbors lawns are proof. I also used to have a ZTR. I already brought up the fact that 200 lbs will be on the single wheel in the middle, and about 300 lbs on each of the back wheels of the mower. with the double wheel you follow the 300lbs with another 100lbs, Right?

I have about 3/4 of a proslide. Wore it out a bit, but would get another if I was using walkbehinds.

I didnt even think about that. The proslide is just basically like a skid plate, right? When your unloading from the trailer, or on pavement, can you not ride the thing? And what happens when you reverse?

Who's mowing when it's wet enought to leave ruts? If so, how dose the discharge look?

I used mine at a large commercial property with a lot of asphalt to slide on . The plastic plates were 35 dollars and lasted me about 8 months using on concrete etc. The problem came when I forgot to get a new plate but its fixable. When reversing it folds up and you walk. It can fold up on you while driving down trailer ramp or large hill unless your used to it.

                    The proslide:
Zero turns no problem, leaves great smooth stripe with no turf tearing.....
Turns better than a fixed wheel sulky, no jackknifing........
Less bulky than a fixed or caster wheel sulky...........
Retracts outta the way when not in use, instead of having to pick it up and clip it.
Ride at ground level instead of a couple of inches off the ground, reducing back strain...................
You can ride across hard surfaces, however reduces pad life........
You are limited in reverse to about 6-8 inches, however you would jackknife with the other schittt, unless your on a bulky caster wheel sulky......
Pad is easily replaced piece of plastic, looks like Black Nylatron............
The pros out weigh the cons, do not knock it till ya try it, MM is a weird one............

Two wheeled sulkys last a little longer because you have two wheels evenly distributing the load as opposed to one. Thats generally a larger concern over striping, ruts, and things of the sort. The sliding ones are pretty nice also as you can see in the above posts.

i prefer the wheeled sulky over the proslide. and before you ask or make a comment i have tested the proslide and i just perfer the wheeled sulky's.

now as for which i think is better, 1 wheeled or 2??? i'm wondering about 2 wheels being better. the thing i notice about my 1 wheeled sulky is on softer, wetter terrain sometimes when i'm turning the wheel "slides" and leaves a "skid" mark. i would think a 2 wheeled sulky would not do that.

Mine has done that a few times when I'm mowing thick wet grass. I relized it was actually just the wet grass clippings getting stuck between the wheel, and the housing around it, not letting it spin easily. If you were on the dry turf or pavement it will still turn, but in sand or in the wet stuff it just slides till you clean it out. Sometimes if you simply reverse it will kick it back out, if not keep a coat hanger in the trailer so you can push it out instead of having to take off the wheel.

I personally use a Pro-One two wheel mainly because my former partner's Exmark had one so I am already used to it, and it was what my Exmark dealer carries. Never even seen a Pro Slide down here, but then there's nothing to stripe so it'd be pretty pointless. One wheels around here are uncommon, but I see them from time to time.

Another thing that keeps coming up... The space taking of a the sulky... 2 wheel and one wheels both can be clipped up, but I've never had a reason to, so IMO if you are having trouble fitting it on your trailer without taking it off or going through some ritual to get it out of the way then... Your damn trailer's too small!!! Get a new one! I have a 6.5 X 14, and can fit my WB with Sulky, my ZTR, and the 21 Honda... No problems. I never understood why people buy a $5000 mower and then trust a $500 trailer to carry it.
who's bi+chen??? i just was posting what i personally prefer. not saying one is better than the other, other than maybe debating one wheel vs. two wheel but i've never used a 2 wheeled one so i really wouldn't know.

as for getting all my equipment on the trailer and leaving the sulky on, it's not a problem. my sulky locks up from behind. it's an exmark stand on. i thought all sulkys could be hooked up off the ground out of the way.

guess i'll be switching to darker colors then for my undwear

on your other note, i've never used a proslide on a belt drive either. i've actually never ran a sulky on a belt drive. my sulky is on my hydro. the belt drive i have is a 36" and only used in small backyards where i can't fit the 52" through the gate. and yes pretty much all the gated backyards i have are small enough walking isn't an issue.

thanks for the tip, i'll keep that in mind. that sounds exactly what my problem is.
