Kohler Cams
Hey guys. I think this is to Greenthum. I wrote the other day that i thought your problem was a design flaw in the cam and that it was composite.Richies139 wrote in that Kohlers are hardened steel.I double checked by going to kohlerengines.com/ and it gives design descriptions and it appears they have hardened steel crank, cam, etc iron liners, and everything you would think kohler would have given there reputation.I found some phone #s 800-544-2444,904-262-1611 and some others.Asked if any kohlers had composite cams and nobody was positive. Finally talked to someone named richard, very informative. He said they are currently experementing with composite but havent been reliable yet. This is for a new consumer grade engine there building. He did tell me they have had a problem with some steel cams from a outside supplier and some were soft and had premature failures.I mentioned this forum and the problem you had and he said no way could you do ANYTHING that would make the cam just break. It would DEFINATELY be covered under warrenty and whoever you talked to was blowing you off.No way no how should it fail EVEN IF IT WERE RUN WITHOUT OIL which you didnt do anyway. Engine would seize long before cam just broke. You should go to there website and contact someone who will listen and get your warrenty honored.Seems i was wrong about accuseing Kohler for the composite cam problem.Riches139 caught that, thanks for not balling me out.GOOD LUCK GREENTHUM.
