  • First broken Redmax 8000

I'd say it has 50 hours on it. This morning it started cutting off as soon as we would start it. The little piece of plastic that gives the choke lever resistance between open and close broke off so the carb is constantly closed. It's rigged with tie-wraps until we can get to the dealer to have it fixed. I can't really see how it can be repaired without putting a new carb on it because the plastic "bump" is molded to the carb body.

I have two, and this is the newest one. Just a pain in the azz, but I was skeptical of all the plastic on the machine when I bought it. Hopefully it's just a fluke.

Please use a small piece of duct tape to hold the choke up after the first cold morning start.

This is a common problem w/the RM8000, however you will only need to choke once in the morning.

$500.00 blower and you have to resort to that kind of bs? They should warranty that.

Speaking of choking blowers....Makita's b/p blower has a choke that can be released with a blip of the throttle. I haven't seen this on any others, but I haven't looked closely at the Redmax either. Does anyone know of another blower that has this feature?

Stihl chainsaws release the choke that way. I've never seen a blower that does.

Please note that the Echo 650/750 shut off will not last and pulling the plug or pushing the choke will be needed to stop the unit.

The RM8000's quirky choke lever is a minor inconvenience that can easily be remedied w/a small piece of duct tape.

Please note that Shindaiwa will have an 86cc Blower avail. come spring.

                        Their current offerings are sub-standard.

I bought mine from James River Grounds Management on Rt. 1 in Ashland. They're about a mile or two on the right after you pass Green Top. They're a huge landscape company, but they also sell equipment. There is also a company in the Hanover Airpark called Forestry Equipment that sells Redmax, but he didn't have the 8000 at the time.

                              Redmax.....

I got myself a Redmax 8000. Used it about a month, and then the bolt that holds the engine assembly to the actual backpack came out. I returned it on Monday and haven't even heard from the dealer since. They said it would take a day. Still waiting......... Now I gotta use a back up craftsman handheld blower in all these leaves!
