At current rates of consumption we will achieve peak oil production by 2008 and the world's reserves will begin the slide into extinction. Prices will likely reach $20-$30 shortly thereafter. In the following 20 plus years the remainder of the world's oil resources will be depleted and we will be left in desolation and decay. Because we live in a society of self serving idiots, political leaders are elected not for their far reaching plans to combat the inevitable crisis but for their ability to calm the masses and maintain the status quo.

At present, Jack D. burns gasoline like air and will continue to do so until he reaches full retirement in /07, well before the huge price spikes and diminishing reserves. He will live out his days in a rural haven surrounded by stock-piled pre crisis reserves of gasoline and his wenches.

Mr. cmorris, both OPEC and the Government are trying to supress Jack D. but Jack D. will not be supressed. You would be wise to plan for retirement by /08 and stock pile fuel before the reserves begin to dwindle and prices become unreasonable.

This post will likely be deleted. Please jot down the content for future reference.

Impossible to plan for retirement by '08 when I am 24. Good to see that you are doing your part by conserving our natural resources.

i remember when there were gas wars and you could get it at 17 cents a gallon, then it went to 50 cents and you had to buy it on odd or even days depending on your plate #. the world was gonna end then it hit 80 cent. kept going up and here we are . we will survive as we always do.

            steve

ps. i made $1.35 per hour at the local carwash at 17 cents a gallon

Why not just put a clause in contracts of a fuel surcharge? I know that I am paying it on everything I pick up.

BTW, most of my prices are decreasing this year. Not by much but it is still a decrease. The profit is going up though in spite of higher gas prices.
My minimum has been the same for the last 2 years. In spring, 2 years ago, it used to cost me $26 to $28 for 20 gal. of gas. When gas goes up to $2.75/gal it'll cost $55. I normally have to fill up 2 times a week, and sometimes 3 times a week depending on the work-load that week.

Now take a look beyond filling up the gas tanks and take into consideration everything else you need to run the business. Every mower, trimmer, blower, truck and trailer part is going to be more expensive. Now take into consideration the rising costs of insurance, office supplies, safety equipment, chemicals. What about uniforms? How about labor costs with the gov't raising the minimum wage? I'm sure most CPA's are going to be charging more for their services as well.

Now you're trying to tell me that your prices are decreasing this year? Can't wait until you need to replace that ZTR, truck or skid steer. That's when the reality of inflation kicks your butt.

Ours was $1.999 today, but it's projected that gas prices will reach $2.759 to $3.009/gal before the end of the year. News reports yesterday also stated (as earlier mentioned) that once they reach those prices it's going to stay that way.

Jack D. has attempted to warn the general riff-raff but they put to much stock in their elected politicians. In 2008, when Jack D. is relaxing in his rural haven with his stockpiled gas and bevy of wenches he will feel no guilt over the fate of others.

Jack D, what an awesome article. The more I read the more I hated to read, but that's just because I didn't want to face the harsh reality of what we're going to be facing in the near future. Wow, I never realized how much trouble the world is in.

For those who haven't read the article please do. It's long, but well worth it.

Just don't get too caught up in all of it or you might feel compelled to start wearing makeup and a wig and become one of Jackie's bevy of wenches.

There's plenty of oil to last at least another 100 years. Don't be fooled. By then, there will likely be another fuel source that we can't even imagine right now. Look at how far we have come in just the last 100 years!
