Photo Challenge #3 ---Voting Thread (pictures for Color)

Well, I have gotta say, there are some very good pictures this time, especially for the northerners having little to choose from because of the time of year. I think we have some good photographers here who have attention to detail and color.

I wish I could vote for them all, but I can't, so here goes:

First Place: Orchid in Bloom - Excellent color and a wonderful shot of one of the most beautiful flowers on the planet.

Second Place: White Light - Great color contrast AND the contrast between light and shade. A very tight second place and my toughest choice. Excellent photo.

Third Place: Blush - That Japanese Maple looks so alive and proud in it's landscape blurred with shades of green. Another very good shot.

Fourth Place: Red Hot Daffodils - Excellent color contrasts and a perfect time for the photo. A few days sooner or later and the flowers would not look quite so perfect.

Fifth Place: Complimentary Color - I can't quite put a finger on it, but something draws me to this photo. It just seems like a very vivid, yet soothing setting, almost tropical feeling. Not sure if the "fuzziness" on the edges is intentional or not, but it does the photo well.

Honorable Mention: Stare Down - As a dog lover, any dog gets a vote and that is a good looking dog, even with those eyes of steel, I am quite sure he is more than playful as soon as someone picks up that frizbee!!

How do you think we can get more viewer/member participation on this or the next ones? Does anyone have any ideas? We've had 8-9 entrants by my estimation, if all but one person entered two photos. 8 members have voted. The way Erich set it up, non entrants can vote too, as long as you were a registered member of the forum prior to the contest... We've had 161 views of this thread so far; surely other registered members that didn't enter photos have browsed through them. You are welcome to vote also. Get involved in the next one too.
This is a good way to break the ice for members who mostly read here and are maybe reluctant to give input in other areas. It's been fun for myself, and educational. Learning to use a digital camera and process the photos can be beneficial to your business also, be it for your website, newsletter, or presentation on your computer screen to potential customers.

Don't know why GM didn't delete that thread or at least move it to OT... I opened it the first time it came up, and have avoided reading the thread or posting to it to feed his ego... A pic of his stupid muffler is not green industry related IMO.

I think the last one got more votes because more folks were BSing in the vote thread constantly bumping it to the top while this time it's been sitting halfway down the page not getting enough attention.

It's really only the 3rd contest, so it may take some time for some folks to get in on it. I hope more do... It's pretty fun. Sooner or later I think someone will come up with a subject that a lot we haven't seen entering won't be able to resist... I almost didn't even enter the last one because I thought "tree" while sounding simple actually was a tougher challenge than it initially seemed... I bet there were twice as many folks who took pictures and never entered them they weren't happy with the pics. Color is kinda tough too because if you don't know your camera, and it's particular settings then it's easy to get washed out shots. Whoever wins this one I think should have the responsibility of coming up with a subject that so simple that everyone will be able to get in on it. Like "mower" or something... I bet that'd get more just because everyone likes to show off their gear, and I'm sure anyone can get a decent pic of a mower. Get more people involved with easy ones then throw in the hard ones like.... Ummmm.... Car window broken by flying mower debris.

We should have a Photo Challenge Super Bowl in January, and put the winning pic from each month all in one overall vote-off to be the Grand Poobah of the challenge or something.

1st = Stare down. I like any picture of a dog, and the light angle makes a nice effect.
2nd = Radiance. Color does it in this pic.
3rd = White light. Not sure why but I really like that pic
4th = Blush. I like red
5th = Not so dead end. I like this one simply for the content
