  • I'll Probably Lose This One And One More.............

i have two customers that have been with me since my start-up. they have always been a thursday or friday cut. well this year due to losing customers over this economy it has changed my routes. this one lady got moved to wednesday and the other got moved to tuesday. so today one sent me her check along with a note saying she wants her lawn done on thursday or friday because she wants it looking good for the weekend. she signed the note with a thanks. i would like to do this for her but it ain't gonna happen and the other woman is probably foaming at the mouth as she got busted from friday to tuesday and she is one of those that her $ h i t don't stink and i'm all that kinda beotch. what would you guys do? yankee boys are invited too.....

Stick to your new routes and tell her or them that that is the way it has to be; it's not cost effective to keep them on the same days. But if thry insist on keeping their old day, it will cost them X dollars more to make the accommendation.

Just tell those pills flat out that Friday is used as a make up rain day. And if it rains on Friday then both of our weekends will be crap due to your selfish and self centered request.

I run a strict route. On certain days I work in a certain area and move on down the line the next day. No back tracking during the week. If someone wants it cut on Thursday or Friday and they are not in the Thur/Fri area they are out of luck. Find another service. Can't afford to be backtracking just to make customers happy. I try not to cut on a Friday anyway and prefer to use that day for rain days.

Everybody wants Thursday and Friday for their mowing day. I reserve those days for full maintenence customers only. Both of those days are full unless I add a 3rd crew. Ain't gonna happen in this economy unless I get real lucky.

i would recommend moving your whole tues and wed routes to thurs. and fri.

thats how i handle my routes every year. i always have a few people who prefer thurs. or fri. so i put them on the schedule first on those days and schedule the one's who don't give a sheot around the one's that do.

i don't know 100% how is routes are but thats what i would try to do in a situation like that.

if you have a few who want a specific day and the rest don't give a sheot it's very easy to put those few on the day they want.

if all his thurs and fri people now don't care when he comes and the rest of his tues wed people don't care just move them like i said and every one is happy.

tues people move to thurs and wed people move to fri or however it worked for those 2 clients.

That would only work if his routes are somewhat in the same geographical area.

My Monday and Tuesday routes have different starting points, but they cross each other and end in the same city. My Thursday and Friday routes Start in the same geographical area but end in different areas in the south county. My Wednesday route is not compatable with any other day.

So based upon my geographical routes in my county, Sorty's logic is a no go because I service a wider area in my largely suburban/rural county.

Sporty's logic will only work if all of Steve's routes are in one urban location.

                            So Here Is The Deal.

she don't like it and told me it puts her in an awkward position as she entertains on weekends and her neighbors mow theirs on weekends. now for the record, i'm in her neighborhood on wednesdays and thursdays and pretty much all my hoods are close together once i get out there from the hooterville complex. the bottom line is i make my routes to make me the most $$$ and this year i have basically lost a whole day of mowing so i've had to make the best choices for me, not her. plus.....she has the only non-irrigated lawn that i have this year and will start whining if we have a little drought period. she is a good customer, pays quick, and i even like the old lady, BUT.......i make my routes in my best interest, not hers. if i could do things different, i would have my tuesday folks on thursday or friday as they are my big $$$ customers. i might add that they don't complain and never have. bottom line is i call the shots.................

I have lost a few jobs

because I wouldn"t do the work on the day of their choice. If the work is in the North part of the county on Monday or Tuesday, there is no way in 'ell that we can make the accommendation when we are in the mid part of the county on Wednesday, or the Southeast part of the county on Thursday and Friday.

My shop is centrally located in the mid section that we serve. The 1-2 jobs that surface from the south part of the county would have to piggy back onto Friday, but they are going to pay bucco bucks for that service, and as yet, there are no takers.

The south part of the county is in Bum Screw Eygpt and their complaint is "we can't get anybody to work down here." Well, that's not true since few want to or are willing to pay for travel time on a crew of two or more to get there and back.

One of the local plumbers advertises "no travel time". Its a smart marketing ploy since it is already figured into his $100/hr fee.
