  • This is becoming a pain in the ass...

I'm under contract to maintain a local nursing/retirement home. Fairly large. My contract covers pruning, leaf clean-up, mowing, fertilizing, and irrigation work as the CEO requested. She did not mention anything about the mulch or weeds in the beds. Seems management changed over this past year for this place and noone knows anything. It took me a couple hours to go over the irrigation there today. All they knew was that there are two controllers (and the maintenance guy didn't even have a key, good thing I did). I had to seek out the shut off valves and backflow assemblies. The wire tracer saved the day!

At any rate, now mulch in the beds is a concern. They want new mulch and to pull/spray the weeds, and the CEO mentioned annuals. The CEO was shocked to learn mulch/bed weeds/annuals are not covered in the contract, yet she signed it herself. ~65 CY of mulch is needed to top-dress, and some existing mulch will have to be removed. This is going to get expensive fast. I'm thinking it would be better to have such a quantity of mulch dropped at the site vs me bringing it in little by little. Now I know why I was awarded with the contract. :alien::alien::alien:

they apparently did not read the contract i would give them a price for mulch as extra work not covered under the contract, if i was you i would work with them on the pricing because many times it will payoff in the long run

Soak them for every penny you can before you are FIRED. The only question is will you make it to the end of the contract or will the fire you sooner

I'm not worried. It's just administration not reviewing the contract before they agreed to it. Their stupidity is not my problem. The contract can be dissolved, but at a price. At any rate, they have the bid for the mulch/weed work now...we'll see what they decide. :alien::alien::alien:

            Eyerolls.

Looks like it's a go for the mulch and what not. Got a deal for $19.50/CY for hardwood mulch. Not a great deal, but they'll deliver it all for $50. Figure use the skid to dump in a large dump trailer pulled by the ZTR. With three guys this should take around two days (maybe less) to complete. CEO can't find her copy of the contract. Good thing I have her signed copy. I'll send her a PDF copy. Must be time to actually sit down and look over what the contract covers 4 1/2 months into it.

None exist in Poverty or nearby. Mulch isn't a big thing here. Rock is more prominent.

big business here in hooterville. they blow soil, compost, mulch, and whatever else they got. i don't know your logistics but here i pass the mulch yard on the way to all my deals so it's easy for me plus i can put the trl where it helps me the most on my bigger jobs which 30 yds is about the biggest. i can put 10 yds on my trl and have put 12 yds but that is somewhat scary as she is just a tad overloaded.......... here would be $18/yd delivered and $41/yd blown in at my cost. $24 and $47 for dyed which i use here in the hooterville metro area........

                  ouch!

I'm paying 15.50 a yard delivered to my shop. Only down side is i have to get 80 yards at a time. And for the record, it ain't that ground up pallet crap either. Its actual ground up tree tops/waist from the lumber industry

Living in Poverty has it's downsides. Suppliers are limited here. I know there are suppliers in KC with good pricing, but that's too far away to be of much benefit to me. I called up the local landscape supply dealer here. I haven't thought much of them this year as they changed ownership and I think the new guy is a douche. Can't buy by the CY anymore as they now sell by the scoop. But I told him I needed 65CY of mulch and his story seems to have changed with such volume. He quoted me the price of $19.50/ CY. Meanwhile, (after converting from the stupid scoop deal to CY), his retail on the same mulch at his yard is over $40/CY. :alien::alien::alien:

                      You know they like me...

Now they want a tree replaced and one of the *****y residents in independant living says the center of the "pampas grass" in front of his home is dead. Really it's maiden grass, and the center is dead, but that's natural. I told them to just have it replaced to shut the geezer up. Meanwhile, CEO now wants a 2-3 acre field adjacent to property hacked back every month or so. BTW: the mulch is a go. Lots to be made off this property now. :alien::alien::alien:

Started mulching today. 30CY done, 30 more tomorrow. Mulch dumped in one pile onsite, hauling approx one cubic yard at a time via cart pulled by my old Toro Z loaded with a skid. Borrowed two laborers from a friend to spread. Easy (profitable) work! :alien::alien::alien:

Trust me, I made out well on the mulch deal. Ran three guys on the mulch today as I dealt with the annuals. Didn't even use all the mulch....have a good stash at the shop now. The 20 cu ft cart saved considerable time, well worth the $300 spent! :alien::alien::alien:
