  • sell a price or your services

    I need your input.

I have my list of top priority to try and get, I will be sending out the first letter soon. Heres my problem. Is it better to sell your services or sell a price. What I mean by this is, I have experimented in when i send out a flyier i explain my services and include a price for this service. I havn't done the price thing enough to have a good read on it. I am fighting with myself for the best way.

Is it better to let your service speek for themselves? Will the price turn some people off if the price aint right? Will it get a better response if your price is comparible to what they are paying? Will it weed out price shopping so you can spend quality time with serious leads. Is it a good idea for commercial but not res.

    Is this a blind mailing?

What are you selling, lawn cutting, landscaping, or chemical services?

Id write up a proposal vs a letter and drop them in person. If you call ahead of time you may be able to arrange a short meeting and sell the gig on the spot. Personally i dont place prices on any marketing tools.

          clclawn,

If these are letters and offers are on "speculation" ... include a "what's in it for me appeal" ... Geico Insurance .. says something like ... we (may) be able to save you up to 15% on insurance ... not that you'll be able to save them anything on lawn care ... but what's the incentive for them to contact you?

If your letters are as Phil states "speculation" then you probably still would be best to show a price. Question is you are offering a number of services at various prices so to set anyone service at a price might be hard to do. I would recommend using a pricing system for those services you want to sell by stating something like, "Mowing, starting as low as $25.95" or maybe " Lawn treatments as low as $29.95" . Poeple want to see a price in front of them from the start, if you take to time to drop all that "work" then have it pay off for you by getting some figure in front of them. Should they call you on the flyer, then take the time to set an appointment and go over the pricing in person with them, this will allow you to explain that your minimum price was stated on the flyer but your price is $xx..xx, then again you may find the price you left maybe be alright to work with considering you may already have work in the area. i put out a mailer using the address and names from the property appraisers office sent to owner of record. i mailed an entire subdivision (140 homes) that i know uses a lot of different lawn services. I put down a fall clean up cut of mulching leaves, edging, blowing less than 1/2 acre one time only for $25.00 call before december 1. normal price may be higher.

I got 8 calls and each one one was only interested in what is the normal price so that they could comparison shop. 1 new customer. never gave a $25.00 special service.
