Dude i hate to ask this but are you new to this. you offered to pay for damage that was done by her son. if anything they should pay for damages to all the properties. by you accepting responsibility you opened yourself to liability if the kid or anyone else got hurt on the joy ride from hell. i dunno how many people agree with me but i would have had the kid cited for tresspassing on the neighbors and taking private property without permission

Went back to the customers house yesterday morning with two employees, lumber, circular saw, wood stain & a sander. WB IS GONE! I am in shock. Then I see the wood fence at the back of the property has been smashed through. At this point I'm sure the WB was stolen. Walk over to the smashed fence & see the WB front end up against a tree in the adjoining yard. Blade was running because both my customers, & the neighbors flower garden have been chopped up. Take the WB out through the adjoining yard, sand & restain the steps & leave. Hoping the husband did this & not some kid looking to steal a WB so I don't have to pay for the damage. The fact the blade was running when it crashed through the fence makes me think it wasn't a theft attempt. If the hubby or one of their kids did it I'm not at fault & shouldn't fix the fence ???? Mystery solved!

Customer calls me says her son (the kid is about 14) fired up the WB and put it through the fence. She is pissed because I told her when I was trying to wrestle it up the stairs it had broken down. Says she saw her kid looking it over but she thought it wouldn't run. Told her the Stair climbing system (SCS) had broken down not the engine or drive. I offered to fix or pay for the fence & replant her & her neighbours gardens. She accepted the offer, said she would pay materials, & gave me her neighbours # to make arrangements to replant his garden. Not real happy about fixing the fence, probably have to hire someone to do the job. Didn't discuss the maintenance contract but I plan on sending a crew over there on Friday to cut.

Good Point Mr. Valleywide,

You damage a customers property; you leave a piece of commercial equipment in the customer's backyard overnight through neglect & not job related necessity; you do not disable said equipment; you lie to the customer re: operational status of the equipment & then you cite the customer's son for trespassing & theft instead of apologising & repairing the damage.

First off i would have paid for the damge u did to the stone. secondly i would have removed the keys from said mower to make sure no one could steal it or ride off. first u should have contacted the police to file a report on the damaged yards. then both of you should have had to pay the damage done to the yards and you should have filed a claim with your insurance company so you could get reimbursed. all three of you were technically responsible for the damages. as for the mower your insurance would also cover that 2. this is my opinion and im sorry for being blunt

Mr. Valleywide, I must admit Jack D. is somewhat bewildered at your assertion that the situation would have been better resolved had the Police been notified & the customer's son cited for trespassing & theft. Conflict resolution is an important part of running a successful business & attempting to lay blame & skirt responsibility for irresponsible & neglectful actions can do nothing but damage your companies image. One must consider that Jack D. inc. still cuts this prop. along w/the neighbors who's property was damaged as well as several other accounts on the street. I doubt that would be the case had we gone the route you suggest.
