It snowed yesterday, it's 29 degrees today. Grass starts growing around April 01. It's Feb 11. Over 1.5 months away.

Chemlawn is out putting stuff down.


There is no chemical that needs to go down that early. None. Pre M? Nah, around here it can wait up through April if needed. Fertilizer? It can be put down with the Pre M.


It's such a rip off if you ask me. And somebody asked a guy on here "Isn't it too early for round #1?" And the other guy responded "No, Chemlawn is out doing it"

Really? That doesn't make it right!


It amazes me how many treatments keep getting added to the "Must Have" list these days.

Thats how they make their money. I am actually goin with 5 fert applications this year. First one is goin down early to mid march.

you know I was at a BMP class given by FSU just a few weeks ago and there were two larger chem company owners and employees there for their CEU's. One was pretty involved in all the discussions until he was asked how many apps they do a year and what are they putting down now. It got very quite on that side of the room and then the instructor looked to the other owner with the same question and both of those guys just turtled up really quick. You know it sure is funny when you talk to these guys one on one because they'll tell you they are the best eco friendly company in town. They'll shoot down and bad mouth us limited guys in a heartbeat because of unethical practices but then when a PH'd in the field comes around and is a recognized authority in the field, they clam the heck up real quick when the questions come. For me, it was a kind of payback to see them guys squirm. Those guys are in it for the exact same reason we do what we do... money!

they had us out at the first of the year putting out dry fert on the dormant bermudas for round #1. it really pisses me off! can't wait to get out on my own, i can do better than this.

You should find out what they are spraying. They were busted a couple of times around here for spraying water (I think it was them). Another time they sprayed a guys lawn with roundup, they didn't lable the tank the evening before. It's been warm enough around here that we have been able to spray a pre-emergent.

What kind of grass do you guys have way up north?

that stuff will always happen when you hire a guy, put him through a 2 week crash course in lawn care, then call him a lawn expert. they are only about one type of Green, and it aint grass. but hey, thats cool! as long as they keep F'n stuff up so the companies who are willing to do it the right way can reap the benefits.

Keep in mind that a Pre-M will last 90 to 120 days and crabgrass will start germination when the soil temp is 55 degrees for 3 days in a row. If you do the math these customers will have a crabgrass problem. TruGreen-ChemLawn doesn't do more than one Pre-M treatment per year.

That's pretty unprofessional to make this public accusation about ANYONE, only to follow it up with (I think it was them).

One word....
overkill and lets see how many apps I can sock to the customer. It can get kind of ridiculous.

I really think there should be some type of regulation with how much junk someone can put on a lawn per year (by country regions). Sure, we all want nice lawns, I DO TOO. But to put down 7-8 treatments is a waste, unless grass is growing all year round, and then I still think 8 is still too many.


crzymoe, I doubt it's a starter fertilizer because as we all know, they started pushing the 'Late' fall treatment for late November that is suppose to give the turf a boost for spring!




Back in the days, the do-it-yourself home owner could have a lawn that would be BETTER than the chem companies. It was the simple Scotts 4-Step program. I mean I recall mowing customers lawns that looked GREAT, and they used that stuff.

Personally, I think lawns look WORSE these days. Green? Sure, but they are always long!! Because too much chemical is causing them to grow 2" in a day, so they never look freshly cut.

But that's what you get with 8 treatments. Last year I told my neighbor to have them skip the next treatment he was to get. His lawn looked much better. Seriously. It was out of control in the Spring. Cutting at least 4" off his lawn every 5-6 days. It's nuts. And a shame.

The other problem i have with chemlawn is they mainly use liquid fert. no slow release there, grass grows like crazy for a few weeks, then bam, it suffers. thats why the only spraying i do is for the broadleaf weed control.

Last year I got up with a Chemlawn tech and he told me that they were putting down 33-0-6 in the fall. What a garbage rip off company. They are no authority by any means!!!
