OK........ Y'all make this harder than it needs to be, so I will give you some backrground to my question. I was at the nursery (who is a wholesaler) picking up a load for a job earlier in the week.Whilst there I spied a pallet of 50# sacks of Osmocote. The price was $90.00 per. That strck me as fairly expensive, however I fully understand the concept of "getting what you pay for". In thiscase I didn' know, in a practical sense, what I would be getting for my 90 simoleans. I recalled reading some posts on here that referred to Osmocote so I thought I would get some thoughts from people who have used Osmocote and have a working opinion on it's value. Jgc8fan, Erich, and btammo have all used this product and I was hoping a few others too and that they would say something contructive like "Yeah, I used it for a year but found that product XXX gave me better blooms on my color installs and was somewhat cheaper." or "I switched from product XY and it saves me money because there's no dust and provides constant nutrients for 4 months"
MM: you have some good kernels of info in your posts and I appreciate that but what I really want is info from people who have actually used the product, So once again>>>>>> How much do you pay for Osmocote... 50# BULK, COMMERCIAL (not the cute 8oz bottle at the hardware store) and why do you like it over say product X??

90 bones sounds high for 50lbs of fert, did it have a pesticide with it?
I pay anywhere from $20-$40 for a 50lb bag of fert from the company previously known as lesco. I use fertilizers on established plants verses new plantings and I look for ones with a minors package but hey that's just me.

IMO, new plantings will do better with soil amendments(compost, organic material, etc...) vs a fertilizer that takes time to seep through the soil.

I use it with no trouble.IFAS would say that using any thing but a slow rrelease is a wast of time.I use it on cantaines as well as in the ground plantings.On top of the soil.You only mix it when you pot the mateial the only way to fet after the fact with a gran is over the top..You can buy mixes for 3 mon. or a year.Or what ever.Its not what you want for new installs though.You want a high potasium fert for root devolopment.You could also use a hydratain type product for water savings and less stress.If you pay 90 and it takes 1Tbs for a 3 gal. for 10-12 months.Thats good

Ill check the dispersion rate, seems like their product varies.

Well I dont know what your using.I know what has been recomended by growers at the fnats show.I know I'm using 1tsp for a 1 gal. and 1 Tbs for a 3 gal.If you have a product that you use this little for that long let me know.I do know that theres a product out know thats soposed to be far better than osmocote but I cant think of the name.I've seen the results in some of the local nurseries stock this year.I'm gonna give it a try when I use up my osmocote.I am by no means saying that osmocote is the best out there but It most certainly works well and if any of you have a product thats working as well or better please let me know.B&T growers supply has 8-9 and 12-14month mix 15-8-11 & 16-9-12 $65 and 19-5-8 & 20-4-8- plus minors 8-9 month mix for $68

this is from what i read and a few sites contradict the info somewhat. osmocote doesn't contain urea as mine does. osmocote contains macronutrients and micronutrients. my stuff just has macronutrients. do your own search if you don't know what those words mean. :laughing: i don't do alot of planting so i really don't know what is best. i would think soil amen dments like scotty boy said would do the trick since most stuff you buy has already been fertilized in the pot or whatever. so i guess if you think those micronutrients and not having urea is worth all that extra $$$, then buy the stuff. i still say a 50lb bag of 10-10-10 is very cheap and can go along way with plantings.

Not Sure What You Are Asking... ?????

i would think the pro-mix would better for pots and planting due to the peat moss aspect plus it has the perilite and vermiculite in it plus the macro & micro deals also. this would take less water vs osmocote unless it was tilled in and then you still need moisture to activate it. hell, i don't know. i'm just a hick from hooterville........ i don't even know what pro-mix cost. enlighten me on that...

Pro-mix is for nursery plant production. Ain't for landscape installation use....

I hope this doesn't confuse your drunk hick butt.
