  • Are you ready for change?

The Selig Center for Economic Growth estimates that by 2010, minorities, African-American, Asians, Native Americans and Hispanics - will account for more than 50% of first time homebuyers and will yield a projected purchasing power in excess of $1.5 trillion (that's with a "T" )

The question is will you be ready to deal with the minorities that will dominate the new home buying scene?

    Talk to me ... baby!

    Well Filbert

As one of those minorities that you listed and knowing your past comment on those minorities. I think the question should be are you ready. I really think this is a two faced comment by you and realize Grassmaster will delete my post. But I just had to get my $0.02 in.

I don't understand the question. I don't understand the difference, a customere is a customere. I have customers of all races and nationalities they all want good service at a competitive price.

Imagine for a moment if you will going from being an employee at $10 an hour (working for a landscape outfit) to starting your own business and in under 10 years making over $100,000 take home? That's what I'm talking about. Some of my customers started with nothing more than a dream and today ... well ... I'm proud of my Hispanic and Latino customers!

Another aspect of the "changes" that will happen in connection with the increase in home ownership as noted in my opening remark (see first post above) will be ... MUCH smaller lawns ... AND perhaps a DIY mentality on the part of thrifty first time minority home owners?

Aren't these "first time homeowners" Gonna be busy our working to pay the mortgages they obtained? With all of these homeowners with huge mortgage payments, what is going to happen when we see recession again, or those with ARM see great increased in interest rates and can no longer afford their mortgage. I am in way referring to the ethnicity of a group particulary losing their homes, however traditionally those groups are in service type occupations. Should all of these people (even our good, mid to high income folks) start to run short on funds from economic reasons we will all suffer.

In another light, are these homeowners and developers going to continue to install landscaping that will require regular matience? or like homes with siding or brick veneer are we going to see a "mantaince free Yard" in our future.

P.S. Ric can you translate the last word of your quote (pm me if you need to)

Hispanics are the fastest growing segment of our society and must be "housed" someplace ... single family homes, apartments, condos, coop housing. I'm sure the range will be vast ... it's anybodys guess but the way I figure it is that since we're talking by 2010 (see my first opening post on this) incomes of Hispanics are not expected to be too "high" ... so we might be seeing smaller homes constructed with smaller than normal lawns in the "burbs" ...

Translation of one word will still not allow you to understand what I Mean if you don't speak Espanol. However bifurcada is a Espanol word from Latin bifurcus two-pronged,

Phil i have found that i cut very few first time home owners. Most first time home owners do it themselves until they move up the financial ladder. That is not a minority thing that is a financial thing. That is common in most first time home owners rather they be white, black or hispanic. you are making an issue out of a non issue.

there's already hispanic lawn services here in birmingham... i guess we're just getting a head start.

i agree with dancom, i'm sure that 98% of new home onwers will do their own lawn for quite some time.

who knows, i'll take one step at a time. if bush doesnt do something about the borders, the white race will be living elsewhere.

Hispanic lawn maintenance companies are popping up everywhere, I see them daily. Not long before they own the maintenance end of the green industry.
