  • What size trailer?

Hey all I'm finally ready to buy new trailer, and I'm not sure if I should get a 16 footer or get the 6.5x14 footer. I got a price for a 6.5 x 14 foot tandem axle, fold down rear ramp gate, brakes on one axle for $1700.00. The price seemed good to me, but a friend is telling me that the 14ft is too small if I plan on getting a zero turn rider in the near future. The equipment that I currently have is a 48in lesco walkbehind, 22in crapsman push, redmaxebz8000 blower, echo trimmer, stick edger, bush trimmers. I do plan on getting racks for all the trimmers etc, and am looking at getting a 32 or 36in walkbehind. My theory is that I dont plan on taking all of my mowers at the same time evey day, especially if I get a z turn rider. I dont see the sense of carrying a 48 and a z turn at the same time, but will take the 32 or 36 with the z turn for the smaller gates. Not to mention if I get the 16ft I will have to leave it in driveway with a tarp over it or empty everything off trailer into garage to protect it. The 14ft will just fit in garage so it will be safer and protected in the winter during storage. Thanks for any help you all can give

i would go with the 16ft'r ... no need to protect your trailer from the elements... they make some with that side ramp and then the rear.. i'd sugest to get the 16ft like that and then despite u wanting both mowers and once go ahead and kiad that 32" or 36" on that side ramp and then drive the ztr up the rear ramp and you will never have a problem as far as loading and unloading goes... that 16ft'r should be all the trailer you ever need.. i mean what if u end up hiring an employee?? then you're gunna want to have that 16ft with side ramp iin order to have both mowers at once

      ..importance of a larger trailer

you're gonna load a ztr in a pickup bed?

          1) Minimum 7' wide, 8' or 8.5' is better, unless you like walking on your equipment and stumbling all the time, even with a WB it will be tight with all the equipment hanging on the walls. 2) If you are going invest you need to go bigger than you need so a 16"' minimum. 3) Your kidding yourself if you don't think you will have that thing full to the gills in a month. 4) Brakes are a must

Go with the 16' at least. The price you are quoting is high. I have be pricing them and have found 18' with 24" sides, rear and side gate for $1750. 16' same set up for $1550. I"m very close on those numbers, but I don't have them in hand. Check out MSI.com . Your in Toledo, not far from me, you should be able to do better. Get your local Trader book from the gas station, if MSI dosn't have anything close to you I know someone will have that trailer cheaper. Good luck, go bigger than you think you need. I started with a 12' and thought that would be enough, but by mid season of my first year I had added a second mower and this year adding a second z now I have no choice but to go buy bigger.

To me the width of a trailer is just as important as the length. My trailer is 83"x16'. That is about as wide as you can find here in Georgia that is not build with the bed over the axles. With the wider trailer you can get mowers side by side, that saves you tons of room for other items.

Just remeber if you plan on growing big than buy big.

I have a 6.5 X 14, and while it looks big just sitting there it fills up quick. I can fit a 44" ZTR, 36" WB, and a 21" push on it barely. Not so bad now that I don't have the WB, but still pretty tight if I need to bring anything else or take trash away with me. Of course mine's actually 12' since the front 2' are taken up by the tool box.

Why didn't you put the tool box on the tongue of the trailer? You will like the extra 2'.

My ex-partner wanted to do that, but my trailer dealer said it wasn't legal here... Don't know if he was full of it or not, but in any case it would cause trouble for me since the way I drive (particularly in reverse)I'm sure I'd put some dents in my truck. I'm probably getting a new box sometime this year, and I'm gonna have it mounted on top of the rails, so I can use the space underneath it. Not a big issue now as I only have 2 mowers. If I get a new WB in the future then I'm gonna rethink some things on the trailer... Like a side gate for starters.

You can get two 48's and Rider on a 14ft trailer It is possible if need be. You will not be nearly as cramped with a 16 or 18fter. Definitely go with the brakes and dual axles. 16ft trailers dual axles with brakes in New England go for 2400$. So you guys can ***** and whine all you want about 1700 being too much.

They are going for about 5400$ for a wells cargo. Everything costs more up here because it gets trucked in from the midwest.

That's the same price I was quoted by Wells and I live in the same town that thier built. That seems funny. Thanks
